About the Role We are seeking a skilled Manufacturing Engineer to support day-to-day operations in our NQA-1 compliant machine shop. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and optimizing manufacturing processes that yield high quality and comply with ASME NQA-1 quality assurance requirements. The ideal candidate combines strong machining knowledge with a rigorous approach to documentation, traceability, quality, and continuous improvement.
How You'll Contribute - Develop, document, and maintain manufacturing processes, tooling, and fixturing for CNC milling, turning, waterjet / laser cutting, and other machining operations
- Create and maintain detailed work instructions, setup sheets, and process routings
- Evaluate and select cutting tools, work holding solutions, and machining strategies to optimize quality, cycle time, and cost
- Program or support CNC programming (G-code, CAM software) as needed
- Design, document, and lead fabrication of tooling and fixtures to support machining operations.
- Collaborate with engineering and quality to develop executable inspection plans
- Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for manufacturing non-conformances
- Identify and implement lean manufacturing and efficiency improvements within the machine shop
- Track and report key manufacturing metrics (scrap rate, first-pass yield, cycle time, OEE)
- Evaluate new equipment, technologies, and processes for potential adoption
- Mentor and train shop personnel on new processes and procedures
Required Qualifications - Minimum 3 years' experience in a manufacturing/process engineering role supporting a machine shop environment
- Experience working in a highly regulated machine shop environment (AS9100, ISO 13485, NQA-1, etc.)
- Strong working understanding of GD&T use and interpretation (ASME Y14.5)
- Experience with CNC machining processes (multi-axis milling, turning, EDM, grinding)
- Experience working with CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, NX CAM, Fusion 360) and CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, NX, Creo)
- Strong understanding of material properties and cutting characteristics
- Demonstrated experience writing and maintaining controlled manufacturing procedures
- Demonstrated working knowledge of the selection and use of hand measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.)
- Demonstrated working knowledge in the selection and use of contact and noncontact digital measuring tools. (CMM, structured light scanner, etc.).
- Familiarity with special processes (welding, heat treatment, coatings, NDE) and their qualification requirements
Preferred Qualifications - Working knowledge of ASME NQA-1
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field
- ASME Y14.5 GD&T Technologist or Senior level certifications
- 3 years hands on machining experience
- 3 years hands on CNC programming experience
