This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

The Role

You'll pioneer the manufacturing processes that turn bold concepts into reliable control systems, the "brains" of our precision electromechanical assemblies. Rather than working the heavy mechanical housings, you'll focus on the electrical and control systems that monitor and govern the equipment: the control panels, wound components, sensors, instrumentation, and integrated field wiring that regulate speed, protection, and safety functions. You'll bridge the gap between visionary design and practical production, ensuring every panel and cable assembly is built right, integrates cleanly, and passes acceptance testing the first time. You'll own how the hardware gets built and create a huge impact on a small but growing team.

The ideal candidate will develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods for high precision electromechanical control assemblies. They will apply knowledge of product design, materials, fabrication processes, tooling, production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards to successfully build complex control hardware, from control cabinets and wire harnesses to fully integrated and tested assembly level systems. Experience with wound components, control and regulation electronics, and the associated field and interconnect wiring is highly valued.

Responsibilities
  • Own the manufacturing process for low volume, high complexity control panels, cabinets, and wiring harnesses, including work performed by internal and external suppliers
  • Design and optimize assembly workflows for control cabinets, backplanes, terminal blocks, terminal boxes, switchgear, and integrated instrumentation
  • Develop panel layout and build documentation, including wire run lists, cable schedules, labeling schemes, and point to point wiring instructions
  • Create strict routing, crimping, terminating, and soldering Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for communication cables, signal wires, winding leads, and control harnesses
  • Lead wiring integration between control assemblies and the surrounding precision electromechanical assemblies, including winding lead routing, coil terminations, connector interfaces, cable dress, strain relief, bonding, grounding, and shielding practices
  • Define and execute system level acceptance test procedures (ATPs), including continuity and point to point verification, insulation integrity checks, functional checkout, and end to end assembly level validation
  • Build, program, and maintain test fixtures and Automated Test Equipment (ATE) to verify control system functions prior to and during final integration
  • Manage processes for loading, updating, and verifying firmware onto microcontrollers and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
  • Capture and trend acceptance test data, drive root cause analysis on test failures, and close the loop with design and quality teams
  • Create shop order routings, select vendors, and oversee fabrication from engineering release through component delivery
  • Analyze received quotations, select or recommend suppliers, and schedule deliveries
  • Build and maintain relationships with external vendors and develop a working understanding of their timelines and capabilities
  • Partner with vendors and Quality Assurance to certify vendor capabilities and qualify new processes
  • Collaborate with supply chain teams to validate alternative electrical components such as relays, fuses, contactors, digital displays, and regulators
  • Review engineering drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and interconnect documentation for complex control assemblies
  • Support Manufacturing Readiness Reviews, Material Review Boards, and nonconformance dispositioning
  • Recommend improvements to in-house equipment, tooling, and processes to compress build timelines and improve first pass yield
  • Communicate manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and related information to facilitate production flow
  • Develop inspection and verification processes for panels, harnesses, and assemblies received from suppliers

Required Experience, Skills, and Education
  • US Person
  • 3+ years of experience in engineering or manufacturing
  • Ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, wire run lists, and interconnect documentation
  • Hands-on process knowledge of control panel build, harness fabrication, crimping and termination, wire marking, and cable routing
  • Experience developing and executing acceptance test procedures for integrated electrical or electromechanical systems
  • Working knowledge of PLCs, Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs), protective relays, contactors, and control regulators
  • Proficiency with test instrumentation including digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, insulation testers, and continuity testers
  • Familiarity with Altium Designer, an equivalent ECAD tool, or electrical panel design software
  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a similar discipline

Preferred Experience
  • Experience wiring and integrating precision electromechanical assemblies, including terminal boxes, connection panels, and field wiring
  • Experience with wound components, winding lead routing, coil terminations, and assembly level interconnect
  • Experience with control, regulation, and protection assemblies for electromechanical equipment
  • Experience manufacturing control systems or motor control assemblies such as control panels, drive cabinets, or switchgear
  • Experience designing and programming Automated Test Equipment (ATE) and custom test fixtures
  • Experience with firmware flashing and verification on microcontrollers or PLCs
  • Experience with insulation system validation and integrity testing
  • Experience with harness drawings and workmanship conforming to IPC/WHMA-A-620 and NASA-STD-8739.4
  • Experience with printed circuit board assembly processes, including soldering, cleanliness, staking, and conformal coating
  • Experience with high reliability or low outgassing materials for wiring and electrical assemblies
  • Familiarity with high voltage workmanship practices, potting and encapsulation, and grounding and bonding standards
  • Familiarity with NEC, UL 508A, or equivalent panel build standards
  • Green Belt or Black Belt certification, or hands on experience with LEAN Six Sigma
