Job Summary

IPSD is seeking a highly skilled Manufacturing Engineer to support generator testing across units ranging from 35kW to 850kW. In this role, you will lead process improvements, troubleshooting, and system optimization while driving continuous improvement, root cause analysis, and capital project execution. You will provide technical expertise in electrical systems and ensure production meets targets for cost, quality, safety, and environmental compliance. This position offers the opportunity to make a direct impact on reliability, efficiency, and overall operational performance.

What you will do:
  • Develop, analyze, and manage manufacturing and test cell engineering projects
  • Troubleshoot day-to-day process problems with testing equipment and generators, initiate solutions, and establish root cause corrective actions to ensure practical assembly and testing processes are in place
  • Determine and design testing processes utilizing industry best practices that align with the process takt time to produce high quality generators safely with the desired throughput
  • Lead and support continuous improvement activities impacting assembly, audit validation, ISO requirements and root cause analysis
  • Engage in creative problem solving to address operational issues including ergonomic/safety, process efficiency improvements utilizing project methodologies (E.g., 6 Sigma Green Belt), process bottlenecks, and quality (E.g., Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA))
  • Coordinate and lead tool design reviews, manufacturing processes, cost estimates, systems planning, layout, standards, and releasing with stakeholders, including estimates, acquisitions, fabrication, and repair
  • Analyze engineering change notices, determine part or process changes, initiate, and implement changes
  • Work with internal and external suppliers to develop and manage capital projects to ensure efficient and cost-effective systems and processes are implemented to produce quality products
  • Analyze and recommend current and future systems, procedures, training, and equipment needs based upon understanding and user communication
  • Determine new equipment acceptability based on usage requirements and recommend modifications or revisions as necessary
  • Support the assembly process, including New Product Introduction (NPI), to ensure that processes and changes are designed for manufacturability and released on time
  • Adhere to established standards, policies and practices relating to quality, cost reduction, safety, ergonomics, etc. in performing assigned duties

  • Lean Manufacturing: Knowledge of the philosophy, principles and implementation approaches of lean manufacturing; ability to integrate and implement lean manufacturing philosophy into existing production and management processes
  • Manufacturing Processes: Knowledge of existing product manufacturing methods, technologies and processes; ability to execute, plan, manage and monitor the entire manufacturing process
  • Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations

  • Test & Validation Engineering: Knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used to test function and performance on mechanical and electrical systems; ability to plan, execute, and analyze test activities to validate product performance and reliability
  • Controls & Automation: Knowledge of control systems, PLCs, and automated equipment; ability to interpret, configure, and troubleshoot controls and integrate automation solutions to improve safety and operational efficiency
  • Electrical & Mechanical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems and diagnostic techniques; ability to identify, isolate, and resolve equipment or process issues across a variety of components and systems

  • This role follows a 5-day onsite schedule with the potential of overtime.

Summary Pay Range:

$89,210.00 - $133,810.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
