Job Description:

Caterpillar is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer in our Waco, TX Work Tools facility. In this role, you will work both independently and as part of a team to maintain and improve processes and systems used in Work Tools fabrications & assembly. Manufacturing Engineers function as a specialist and subject matter expert for technical planning in all aspects of production, cost, quality, and compliance to safety and environmental guidelines.

What you can look forward to in this role:

Process Quality & Risk Management
  • Lead and maintain SFMEA and PFMEA activities, with focused action on medium- to low-risk RPNs to drive continuous improvement and risk reduction.
  • Serve as Engineering Change (EC) Lead, coordinating cross-functional stakeholders through change implementation.
  • Act as Engineering Change drawing approver, ensuring accuracy and manufacturability.
  • Update and maintain standard work documentation within Global Teamcenter Manufacturing / Rapid Author (GTC Mfg/RA).
  • Deliver first-production change training to manufacturing teams to ensure accurate and timely adoption of changes.
  • Manage Global Teamcenter Manufacturing MBOMs for both New Product Introduction (NPI) and current production programs.
  • Function as a SAP ME super user, providing advanced system support and process guidance to manufacturing operations.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for subject matter expert for 3D printed assist tooling, supporting rapid prototyping and tooling solutions.
  • Conduct time studies to optimize labor efficiency, line balance, and production throughput.
  • Manage indirect procurement for manufacturing tools, supporting cost, availability, and production readiness.
  • Provide hands-on NPI support, including the replication and deployment of standardized work across lines or sites to ensure consistent manufacturing execution.


A successful candidate in this role will showcase their skills in:
  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
  • Lean Manufacturing: Knowledge of philosophy, principles and implementation approaches of lean manufacturing; ability to integrate and implement lean manufacturing philosophy into existing production and management processes.
  • Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Engineering - MFG: Knowledge of processes, techniques and methods of engineering in a manufacturing environment; ability to design and implement materials, structures, machines, devices, systems and processes that safely realize a desired objective or invention.


Top Candidates for this position may also have:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or an engineering technology or minimum of 3 years of manufacturing engineering shop floor experience - Work would include process improvements, cycle time, rebalancing of work, tooling corrections, etc.
  • Prior experience working in AutoCAD or similar 3D modeling software
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with multiple departments simultaneously
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Experience creating and maintaining routings in ERP systems.
  • Experience in conducting time studies
  • Experience identifying and developing solutions to Safety, Quality, Velocity, and Cost issues in a shop floor environment.
  • Good communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.

Summary Pay Range:

$81,370.00 - $122,060.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
