Job description

1. Occupational Summary (Position Objective & Authorities)

Objective:
Within the manufacturing engineer job description, there are 2 separate job functions. Typically an employee will perform one or the other, not both and under close supervision. Both functions are described within.

Industrialization Leader-
The Industrialization Leader is responsible for the technical review and preparation of new products, ensuring they reach the production phase on time and of good quality. They support manufacturing and processes to lead the successful industrialization of new products, ensuring cost-effectiveness and quality adherence. They collaborate with cross-functional teams to bring products from conception through to first article validation and to the production phase. They work under basic supervision and are generally able to operate independently, and are able to participate in projects and improvement initiatives.
Authorities: This position has the authority to approve/reject engineering drawings, contribute to program reviews and initiate actions to reduce the risk of their projects. They are able to manage projects on their own.They may also serve as a lead of a local team.

Manufacturing Engineer-
Work closely with Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering to design and implement process and equipment layouts and improvements. Support Operations through technical support, product design, quality standards and process improvement
Must have strong technical skills in engineering (design and industrialization), knowledge about quality management like root cause analysis or statistical process control. Must have strong inter-personal skills and be highly energetic. This position works under general supervision.

A) Industrialization Leader 2
i) Manage the technical development of a product from conception to production
ii) Utilize core tools such as PFMEA, DFMA, control plans, etc.
iii) Collaborate with engineering, operations, tooling and other departments to resolve issues and improve processes. May develop new tools as needed.
iv) Review and approve or reject engineering drawings in accordance with internal DFM guidelines and requirements. Propose changes and updates to DFM guidelines.
v) Create and maintain detailed work instructions
vi) Ensure design and process are sufficient to produce the quality of product required by internal and external standards. Support related improvements and projects.

Candidate skills & requirements

vii) Support production areas, fabrication and final assembly, when new product is being launched to quickly address and correct and issues that may arise
viii) Determine root causes of failures or production problems and recommend changes to designs, tolerances, or processing methods
ix) Design and develop the process as necessary to produce the product at the volume and quality required
x) Keep up to date with relevant technological advances and support implementation of new processes and machines.
xi) Attend design reviews and provide relevant feedback for manufacturability
xii) Support engineering as necessary through development phase (collaboration, drawing review, etc.)

For DEV process, Industrialization Leader is responsible for:
• Contributing to and participating in PBS reviews.
• Preparing and presenting Industrialization Reviews to Program Industrialization Manager.

3. Qualification Requirements

A. Education & Qualification-
• B.S degree in a related technical field (e.g.: Industrial Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer/Technology, Aeronautics Engineer, or Electrical Engineer) or an Associate degree with 6 years related experience or 12 years of job related experience

B. Work Experience - Technical knowledge-
• Three years of manufacturing experience preferred but not required
• Catia or design modeling a plus
• Six Sigma or lean certification preferred.

C. Professional Skills-
• Must have basic knowledge of production methods, process capabilities, tooling processes, and manufacturing processes
• Must be capable of preparing well-written reports and orderly reports
• Must have basic knowledge of manufacturing and related operations with detailed knowledge of such fields as product design, engineering function, tool design, tool fabrication, ergonomics and EHS, space layout, handling equipment, production machinery and equipment, N/C machinery and equipment, factory methods work, etc...
• Knowledge and experience in Lean Manufacturing principles preferred
• Strong knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and Operating Systems
• Must have the ability to generate written communication and to operate required office equipment.
• Ability to read and review written communication.
• Speech and hearing abilities that allow individual to communicate clearly and distinctly in English.

D. Behavioral Skills-
• Able to work collaboratively with cross functional teams and engage in healthy debate.
• Able to maintain an organized workspace and calendar to keep up with all active assignments.
• Able to approach problems both analytically and creatively to find solutions.

E. Desirable Aspects-
