Description Apple is seeking a Manufacturing Architect to help build the manufacturing strategy and foundation of Apple's iconic product enclosures/casings. The Manufacturing Architecture team creates and engineers the overall manufacturing process and strategy for our products. We work cross functionally with the world's best designers and operations team with the ultimate goal of creating a process that is both design enabling and operationally executable. The role requires blending of skills in manufacturing, design and business. The process by which we manufacture can be as innovative as the products we create. We work by going very wide on process options and quickly narrowing. This requires the ability to see both detail and broad picture mixed with a willingness to try the impossible. Responsibilities/ Deliverables Include: Creation of the manufacturing process from raw material to final assembly Determine tooling / equipment requirements Establish cycle time and other key cost drivers Manufacturing technology roadmap Supplier technical assessments Evaluate lessons learned and conduct post mortem reviews of prior programs Budgetary and cost estimation Project ownership from initial concepts through the mass production phase

Minimum Qualifications
  • 8+ Years relevant industry experience preferred
  • BSME or equivalent with MSME or MBA desirable
  • Ability to travel 25%+ is required


Preferred Qualifications
  • Fabrication: Metal Forming, Injection Molding, Materials, Machining, Laser Processing, Cleaning, and Fixture Design
  • Surface Finishing: Polishing, Sanding, Anodizing, Painting, Printing and Fixture Design
  • Assembly: Gluing, Welding, Multi-Part Assembly and Fixture Design
  • Design: Industrial and Product Design exposure/ experience
  • Quality: Metrology, QA systems, Data analysis
  • Commercial: Supply chain experience, Tooling and equipment purchases
  • Manufacturing: NPI, Experience in Asia, High volume, Proven track record of scaleable manufacturing solutions
  • Experience with carbon and glass fiber composite manufacturing desired. Experience with primary processes such as pre-pregging, layup, molding, forming, and forging necessary. Experience with secondary operations of composites such as CNC, stamping, deburring, blasting, and coatings desired. Experience with common defects, failure analysis, and process improvements around composites including improving flatness and dimensional accuracy. Experience with composites reliability testing and characterizing performance. Ability to run design of experiments on material, layup, die cut, and molding parameters.

  • - Plastic injection / hybrid molding experience
  • - Class A cosmetics / cosmetic composite development
  • - Consumer electronic experience / high volume would be a nice to have


Pay & Benefits At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $187,300 and $281,900, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple's Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
