If you do not know what TIC is, please do not apply.Position SummaryThe Managing Director is responsible for the overall leadership, growth, profitability, and strategic direction of an ISO 17025-accredited testing laboratory specializing in EMC, environmental, electrical, mechanical, and related testing services. The role has full responsibility for business performance, including revenue growth, operational execution, financial management, capital allocation, compliance, personnel leadership, customer satisfaction, and strategic expansion initiatives. The Managing Director serves as the primary liaison between local operations and corporate leadership while ensuring the organization meets its financial, quality, and operational objectives.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership- Develop and execute business strategies to drive revenue growth, profitability, and long-term value creation.
- Evaluate new service offerings, testing capabilities, acquisitions, and market expansion opportunities.
- Lead annual strategic planning, budgeting, and forecasting activities.
- Analyze industry trends, competitors, customer demand, and market opportunities to guide investment decisions.
Financial Management- Maintain full profit and loss (P&L) responsibility for the business unit.
- Develop and manage annual operating budgets and forecasts.
- Review revenue, profitability, utilization, backlog, recovery rates, and key financial metrics.
- Prepare and present financial and operational performance information to executive leadership.
- Approve expenditures, vendor payments, payroll reviews, and other financial transactions within delegated authority.
Capital Expenditure Management- Develop annual CapEx plans aligned with business objectives.
- Evaluate, prioritize, and approve investments in laboratory equipment, facilities, and technology.
- Prepare business cases and return-on-investment analyses for major projects.
- Monitor CapEx spending versus budget and ensure timely execution of approved projects.
Operations Leadership- Direct day-to-day laboratory operations across multiple technical disciplines.
- Ensure efficient utilization of personnel, equipment, facilities, and resources.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, turnaround time, quality, and customer satisfaction.
- Oversee major operational projects, facility improvements, and business system implementations.
Sales and Business Development- Support key customer relationships and major commercial opportunities.
- Collaborate with business development teams to improve quoting processes, customer acquisition, and cross-selling opportunities.
- Participate in strategic customer meetings and large quotation reviews.
- Provide direction on pricing strategy, market positioning, and growth initiatives.
Marketing and Growth Initiatives- Collaborate with marketing leadership on lead generation, CRM utilization, website strategy, and digital marketing initiatives.
- Monitor market trends and competitive positioning.
- Participate in strategic growth planning and performance reporting activities.
Quality, Regulatory, and Compliance Oversight- Ensure compliance with ISO 17025 accreditation requirements and applicable regulatory obligations.
- Maintain adherence to corporate governance, ethics, export control, ITAR, CFIUS, and internal control requirements.
- Support implementation of corporate policies, procedures, and compliance programs.
- Serve as a management representative during audits, assessments, and regulatory reviews.
Human Resources and Organizational Leadership- Lead recruitment, workforce planning, compensation reviews, succession planning, and employee development activities.
- Supervise department leaders and provide coaching, mentoring, and performance direction.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Partner with HR on organizational design, staffing plans, and employee relations matters.
Corporate and Cross-Functional Leadership- Represent the business unit in executive reviews and corporate management meetings.
- Coordinate with finance, IT, legal, procurement, marketing, HR, and operational leadership teams.
- Support ERP, CRM, SharePoint, SAP, Ariba, and other enterprise system implementations and improvements.
- Communicate organizational objectives and business performance to leadership teams.
Required QualificationsEducation- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related discipline required.
- MBA or advanced professional certification preferred.
Experience- Must have 10+ years of leadership experience in testing, certification, laboratory services, engineering services, manufacturing, or related technical industries.
- Demonstrated responsibility for P&L management, budgeting, forecasting, and business growth.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary technical and operational teams.
- Experience with regulated environments, quality systems, and accreditation programs.
