Understanding the impact of existing tax laws is hard enough. New legislation, judicial decisions and administrative authority compound the challenges. RSM Canada is looking for a Managing Director to join our National Tax Office. The successful candidate will be interested in exploring the intersection of Canadian income tax legislation and practical application. In this position, you will play a critical role in team leadership, thought leadership, and advising clients and RSM client engagement teams on complex issues across a wide range of tax specialty practice areas.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the National Tax practice, client relationships for complex engagements, delivering high-value tax advice and expanding services
- Collaborate with other specialty groups on technical matters such as corporate taxation, partnerships, international tax, mergers and acquisitions
- Advise clients on tax controversy matters, including the tax audit and/or appeals process and strategy
- Develop internal and external presentations on thought leadership and other Canadian income tax developments, driving technical tax innovation across the firm
- Serve as a performance advisor, mentor, and coach; provide timely and actionable feedback
- Develop and train staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment
- Communicate complex tax concepts in a clear, non-technical manner to support client understanding and risk management
- Interact directly with clients to address questions, planning needs, and consulting engagements
- Review research and ensure conclusions align with firm policies and professional standards
- Build cross-functional relationships to deliver integrated client service
- Stay current on tax regulations, developments, and firm guidance
- Perform other duties as assigned; travel may be required based on business needs
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field of study from an accredited university
- One of the following active and in good standing: CPA or LLB / JD
- Minimum of 12 years of relevant tax experience in a large accounting firm or similar firm/environment
- Comprehensive understanding of tax law/rules and implications
- Effective project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities, tasks, and projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy and quality of work in a fast paced, client service environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to lead collaborative teams

At RSM, an employee's pay at any point in their career is intended to reflect their experiences, performance, and skills for their current role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns and associates) for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.
Compensation Range: $142,500 - $284,100
Individuals selected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
