Job Summary

The Managing Director, Generation Plant Engineering, is responsible for working with I&M Generation Leadership and plant operations teams to provide technical direction and oversight of all plant level engineering matters across the company's generation fleet. This role works closely with AEP's central engineering organization to ensure all AEP engineering standards, design basis, best practices, and technical requirements are implemented at I&M's generation sites. This position also works closely with plant operations to provide training and oversight to operations staff, engage in troubleshooting operational issues, lead root cause analysis, and coordinate third party technical support. This leadership position also emphasizes continuous improvement, regulatory compliance, and the integration of new technologies to enhance performance and efficiency across all generation assets.

Job Description

What You'll Do:

Strategic Leadership
  • Actively participate on I&M Generation Leadership team in the development and implementation of the technical vision and strategic direction for the generation organization.
  • Serve as I&M's primary lead for communication and coordination with AEP's central engineering team on technical strategic plan and new technologies.
  • Establish long-term strategies along with near-term goals, action plans, and performance objectives.


Engineering Oversight
  • Direct and oversee plant level engineering activities across I&M's generation facilities.
  • Provide timely engineering and technical support to Plant Managers and coordinate activities with AEP central engineering and/or third-party technical support as necessary.
  • Actively engage with operations teams and engineering support to ensure alignment with project schedules, budgets, and resource plans.


Standards & Compliance
  • Ensure operations staff at each I&M facility is property trained and operates I&M generation facilities in accordance with engineering design standards and guidelines consistent with industry regulations and company requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations.


Technology & Innovation
  • Work with AEP central engineering and I&M Generation Leadership to evaluate, select, and implement new technologies, equipment, and vendor solutions to improve performance and reduce cost.
  • Drive modernization and digital transformation initiatives within I&M's generation portfolio.


Planning & Budgeting
  • Work with Plant Managers in the development of annual work plans, capital projects, and resource forecasts.
  • Lead the development and coordination of Asset Health Reports for I&M generation assets and develop long-term investment plans to support safe and reliable operations.


Operational Excellence
  • Work with I&M Generation Leadership team and Plant Managers to promote and enforce robust safety, health, and environmental programs at I&M Generation facilities.
  • Work with Plant Managers to ensure strong quality control processes and continuous improvement practices are in place.


Talent Management
  • Participate in recruiting, developing, and retaining a high-performing plant engineering workforce.
  • Develop and implement training programs that increase the engineering and technical skills of I&M's workforce,


Contractor & Vendor Management
  • Work with AEP central engineering and procurement to ensure proper technical specifications, scopes of work, and quality control processes are in place for contractors and vendors performing work on I&M generation facilities.
  • Ensure accountability, cost effectiveness, and service quality of all third-party engineering and technical firms used to perform work on I&M generation assets.


What We're Looking For:

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field(Master's degree preferred).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification is preferred


Experience:
  • Minimum of 12 years of progressive engineering experience within power generation.
  • At least 4 years of leadership or management experience.
