Summary of Position: The Managing Director, Development - Texas is responsible for leading all development activities across the Texas region, including the identification, evaluation, capitalization, entitlement, execution, and delivery of multifamily and mixed-use real estate investments. This role provides strategic leadership for the region's development platform and is accountable for driving growth, maximizing investment returns, managing project risk, and ensuring successful execution of all projects from acquisition through stabilization.
Reporting to the Executive Managing Director of Development for the East Region, the Managing Director serves as a key member of the regional leadership team and collaborates closely with Investments, Construction, Asset Management, Legal, Finance, and executive leadership to achieve the Company's development objectives. The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of the Texas markets, strong financial and analytical capabilities, and a proven track record of leading complex real estate developments.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:- Lead the sourcing, evaluation, underwriting, and execution of multifamily and mixed-use development opportunities throughout the Texas region.
- Develop and execute regional development strategies aligned with Company growth objectives, investment criteria, and market opportunities.
- Partner with the East Region Executive Managing Director and Investments team to identify new markets, strategic partnerships, and land acquisition opportunities.
- Lead all aspects of the development process, including site selection, due diligence, entitlement, design, permitting, financing, construction oversight, and project stabilization.
- Oversee a portfolio of development projects and ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with approved investment objectives.
- Build and maintain relationships with municipalities, brokers, landowners, consultants, joint venture partners, lenders, and industry stakeholders throughout the region.
- Present investment opportunities, development updates, and strategic recommendations to executive leadership, investment committees, capital partners, and lenders.
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders to structure and secure debt and equity financing for development projects.
- Lead project budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial reporting throughout the development lifecycle.
- Provide leadership and direction to internal development professionals while fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and professional growth.
- Evaluate project risks and develop mitigation strategies to protect investment performance and project outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with applicable governmental regulations, Company policies, and development standards.
- Collaborate with Construction and Asset Management teams to maximize operational performance and long-term asset value.
- Monitor market trends, demographic shifts, economic conditions, and competitive activity to identify opportunities and risks within the region.
Education and Experience Requirements:- Bachelor's degree in Real Estate, Finance, Business, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Urban Planning, or a related field required.
- MBA or Master's degree in Real Estate, Finance, or a related discipline strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 12+ years of progressively responsible experience in multifamily real estate development, including leadership responsibility for major development projects and teams.
- Demonstrated track record of successfully sourcing, entitling, capitalizing, and delivering multifamily development projects.
- Extensive knowledge of real estate finance, underwriting, market analysis, land acquisition, entitlement processes, and construction practices.
- Strong understanding of development opportunities and regulatory environments within the Texas region.
- Proven leadership experience managing teams, consultants, contractors, and external partners.
- Exceptional financial modeling, analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
- Strong presentation, communication, and relationship-management abilities with experience engaging executive leadership and investment committees.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and other financial analysis tools.
Additional Requirements:- Ability to travel regularly throughout Texas and other Company markets as needed.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel independently to project sites, municipal meetings, and business development events.

The associate must be able to operate computer equipment, communicate effectively in person and virtually, and occasionally lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
