Job Summary:

The Director, Valuation & Capital Markets Analytics - Complex Financial Instruments is responsible for leading, executing, and the delivery of challenging valuation engagements by participating in all aspects of projects, from the initial proposal preparation through project completion. This role is actively engaged in the management of valuation assignments and managing staff in the development of such assignments.

In addition, this role is responsible for contributing to the strategic growth and development of the VCMA practice, including business development, key account relationships, solution development, cross-functional collaboration, talent development, and appraisal reviews. The Managing Director is expected to demonstrate executive-level leadership, technical expertise, and commercial judgment while helping expand the firm's presence in complex financial instruments and related valuation and advisory services.

Job Duties:
  • Executes office business development plan in conjunction with the Valuation team
  • Builds and maintains relationships with key executives and stakeholders in support of the growth of the office business lines and industries
  • Identifies opportunities to broaden the firm's services across existing and prospective accounts
  • Provides leadership in developing market strategy, go-to-market initiatives, proposals, pricing, and pursuit strategies for significant client opportunities
  • Supports broader practice management initiatives, including strategic planning, resource management, recruiting, training, and development of future practice leaders
  • Leads and manages the valuation services related to a variety of complex financial instruments for financial reporting, tax, strategic planning, and other business purposes
  • Oversees client engagement from beginning to end, including but not limited to project set up and other administrative items, management of team members, communications, and presentations with the client
  • Critically reviews model functionality, evaluates, and documents the methodology employed, assumptions used, and conclusions reached
  • Ensures quality controls and risk management procedures are adhered to in association with all client communication and work products
  • Contributes to the development of new methodologies, technology-enabled solutions, intellectual capital, and market-facing thought leadership related to complex financial instruments and emerging valuation issues
  • Participates in internal and external client meetings
  • Other duties as required

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Coaches and develops Directors, Senior Managers, Managers, and other professionals, with particular emphasis on developing technical leaders, client relationship skills, and future practice leadership
  • Participates in recruiting, retention, promotion, and other talent-management activities within the practice
  • Supervises the day-to-day workload of VCMA Staff on assigned engagements and reviews work product
  • Ensures VCMA Staff are trained on all relevant valuation databases and models
  • Evaluates the performance of VCMA Staff and assists in the development of goals and objectives to enhance professional development
  • Delivers periodic performance feedback and completes performance evaluations for VCMA Staff
  • Acts as Career Advisor to VCMA Staff, as appropriate

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree, required; focus in Finance, Financial Engineering, Actuarial Science, Risk Management, Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Economics, preferred
  • Master's in Financial Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, preferred

Experience:
  • Experience with valuation of complex financial instruments (complex securities) or derivatives, required
  • Experience in financial reporting valuation and appraisal review, required
  • Twelve (12) or more years of experience within an accounting firms, independent advisory firm, bank, or other financial services firm, preferred
  • Experience in business valuation and intangible assets, preferred
  • Experience with earnouts, convertible debt, warrants, Total Shareholder Return (TSR) and Employee Stock Option (ESO) grants, private company equity securities, hybrid instruments, or structured products, preferred

License/Certifications:
  • CFA, FRM, QRM, ASA or other valuation industry credentials, preferred

Software:
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, required
  • Prior experience with Capital IQ and Bloomberg, preferred
  • Prior experience with Macro/VBA, R, Python, Intex, Moody's Analytics, and other industry software, preferred

Language:
  • N/A

Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.

National Range: $240,000 - $361,000
Maryland Range: $240,000 - $361,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $240,000 - $361,000
