PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Volunteer Services Manager is responsible for leading the Volunteer Services team to provide ChristianaCare with competent and motivated volunteers who can assist with achieving the organizations mission and goals. The successful candidate assumes full accountability for department operations and manages the daily activities and operations of the Volunteer Services team at Christiana and Wilmington Hospitals and satellite locations and partners with Cecil Campus volunteer manager. This position manages the recruitment, onboarding, training, and retention of volunteers; develops and manages monthly reporting and assures compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Serves as an advisor to leadership on the use of volunteers, industry trends, and other volunteer matters relevant to our mission and goals.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Volunteer Management - Oversee coordination of the effective utilization of volunteers to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. This includes:
• Create assignment descriptions in collaboration with caregivers.
• Recruit, interview, onboard, and strategically place volunteers.
• Develop, implement, and administer volunteer orientation and training programs including the
• dissemination of online volunteer annual education.
• Manage the evaluation, retention, and recognition processes for volunteers.
• Develop and implement plans for compliance, grievances, and disciplinary action.
• Oversee collection and tracking of all volunteer data and documents.
• Process Management - Develop and implement standard operating procedures to optimize department efficiencies.
• Report Management - Generate and provide statistical data reports to leadership.
• Regulatory Compliance - Ensure all departmental practices are in accordance with applicable laws and regulations including Joint Commission.
• Supervision - Assumes supervision of Volunteer Services caregivers and volunteers in accordance with organizational policies and procedures. Including evaluations, setting performance goals, team building and professional development.
• Budget Coordination - Promote sound fiscal operation by implementing an effective budgetary process within the department.
• Program management - Liaise with Director and caregivers throughout the organization to develop new, innovative, and strategically oriented volunteer programs that enhance the services of ChristianaCare and its staff to maximize the patient and family experience.
• Professional Development - Participate in professional organizations in volunteer management.
• Community Engagement - Represent ChristianaCare and Volunteer Services in various community activities.
• Partnership - Collaborates with Junior Board representatives to ensure optimal communication and efficiency between groups.
• Values and Behaviors - Demonstrate an understanding and application of ChristianaCare Core Values and Behaviors. Ensures caregivers and volunteers are adhering to these values in all interactions.

SCOPE, PURPOSE, AND FREQUENCY OF CONTACTS:

Frequent contact with the public to promote volunteerism. Must cross departmental lines, collaborating with all members of the healthcare team and all levels of management including executive leadership. Daily contact with current and potential volunteers and other caregivers. Some contact with patients, families, and visitors.

DIRECTION/SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:

Leads volunteer services staff including two Operations coordinators and volunteers at Christiana, Wilmington, and all satellite locations.

Director, Visitor, Volunteer and Spiritual Care & Chaplain Services

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree with a major in business management, psychology, or sociology or some colleges with five years work experience in a supervisory position required.

Additional career preparations should include course work in Human Resource administration, public relations, business communications and computer science.

Knowledge of the field of volunteerism is necessary.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to motivate and generate enthusiasm.

Ability to integrate volunteers into services that are satisfying and productive.

Ability to manage difficult, confidential, and urgent matters with sound judgement.

Anility to work in a matrixed environment.

Ability to use multiple computer programs (Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)

Ability to function as a member of a team with colleagues.

Ability to act independent within a defined scope of authority.

Ability to be empathetic and effective with person of diverse cultures.

Excellent communication skills.

Knowledge of active teaching techniques.

Knowledge of Human Resources management, with emphasis on the effective human relations element.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Typical office environment. Visits to patient care areas and other campuses required. Must be able to travel to other ChristianaCare sites and outside locations.

Annual Compensation Range $68,161.60 - $109,054.40

This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare's good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
