Located in our Calgary office, the individual in the Manager, Tax role will report to the Director, Tax. The successful candidate will be responsible for the tax function in Canada. This position ensures accurate record keeping, developing efficient practices, tax strategies and procedures, ensuring accurate and timely filing of income tax returns, estimated payments, annual report filings and accurate reporting in the financial statements. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance financial performance, optimize processes, and lead key business initiatives. This role requires strong technical knowledge of Canadian tax laws, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with internal teams and external advisors.
What you'll do:
- Manage the preparation, review, and timely filing of Canadian corporate tax returns, partnership filings, foreign reporting, and all required elections.
- Coordinating the preparation and review of the income tax provision, including IFRS disclosures and supporting working papers.
- Researching and analyzing complex tax issues to provide timely and accurate solutions to the business.
- Managing tax forecasting processes and identifying strategic tax planning activities
- Assisting with tax-related projects including financing and M&A tax due diligence.
- Maintaining tax calculations for surplus, EIFEL, Pillar II, safe income and ACB.
- Managing income tax audits, including review and coordination of data collection, analysis and communication between tax personnel and tax authorities or external consultants.
- Effectively communicating data and findings to important decision makers and stakeholders to drive strategic business decisions.
What you bring:
- Canadian CPA designation
- Completion of CPA In-Depth Tax Program.
- Minimum 7-10 years of progressive corporate income tax experience in a mid-to-large organization.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field
- 5 years of people leadership experience (coaching, performance management, and developing tax professionals).
- Hands on experience with cross-border tax compliance for Canadian and US entities, including corporate income tax filings and related reporting.
- Strong technical knowledge of the Canadian Income Tax Act
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
- Self-motivated, organized and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Team player and willing to learn and continuously improve.
- Proven ability to design, implement and document tax compliance processes and controls.
- Strong written and oral communication skills and attention to detail.
- Strong Excel skills required, experience with business intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI, Alteryx) is an asset
Salary: $145,000 - 155,000 annually (based on skills, experience, qualifications, and geography).
