Manager, Fund Tax

As Manager, Fund Tax, you will participate in the review and oversight of fund tax distributions, administration and reporting for Canadian investment funds, ensuring compliance with all applicable tax regulations. You will participate on taxation matters related to investment funds, supporting areas such as sales, portfolio/investment management, tax compliance, financial reporting, and fund accounting.

This role requires significant technical skills and the ability to manage tax processes while mitigating risk and driving operational excellence, as part of the fund tax team.

• Participate in a client focused culture throughout the fund tax team to deepen relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
• Participate in tax technical matters providing input to guidance provided to cross-functional teams pertaining to new product initiatives and current product including providing analysis of tax implications regarding the investments, products and the investors.
• Provide input to engagements with external advisors on fund related tax technical matters, as appropriate.
• Prepare oversight of distributions for investment funds, including oversight of service providers and year-end processes.
• Manage tax compliance for investment funds including annual tax returns, ensuring the timely and accurate preparation of tax regulatory filings.
• Participate in the development and review policies and procedures to ensure they are efficient and that required procedures and effective controls are in place.
• Participate in the making of decisions as required on tax-related matters affecting the investment funds while assessing and managing risk exposure to the organization and clients.
• Consider changes to legislation, communicate changes as appropriate, and support any initiatives that may be undertaken as a result of these changes.
• Contribute to liaison with tax authorities, internal partners and service providers, as necessary, on assessments, audits, and enquiries and on matters of administrative practices affecting investment funds.
• Review work performed by foreign tax agents with respect to foreign tax calculations and reporting required for the investment funds.
• Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
• Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, regulatory sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:
• CPA or other relevant designation (preferred)
• Completion or participation in the CPA In-Depth Tax Program (preferred)
• Knowledge of tax issues affecting investment funds
• Experience with investment fund tax reporting (trusts, corporations, limited partnerships)
• Significant tax regulatory research and analysis skills
• Ability to work effectively while managing multiple tasks
• Excellent communication, relationship, influencing and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate with clarity; strong verbal and written communications skills, including effective listening skills.
• Strong client service orientation, including the ability to listen to client needs and present clear and well-defined solutions as well as an ability to build partnerships and effective working relationships internal and external to the organization
• Innovative thinking, focusing on improving control effectiveness and efficiency
• Project management and problem-solving skills
• Self-motivated; committed to achieving results and able to handle a significant volume of complex deliverables on an inflexible schedule of statutory deadlines
• Strong work-ethic; capable of working under pressure and meeting deadlines; may at times require evening and weekend hours
