Job Description
We currently have an exciting career opportunity for a
Manager - Tax Controversy to join the team in our
National Tax practice.
YOUR TEAM/POSITION OVERVIEW.This position will support our
National Tax Group. We are seeking a highly motivated, analytical and experienced Tax Controversy professional to join our team. As Tax Controversy Manager, you will play an integral role in assisting clients with responding to IRS and state tax matters to resolve them as favorably as possible. The ideal candidate should have a strong foundation in tax concepts and regulations, as well as the ability to deliver solid tax controversy services. This is a position that will be part of a new National Tax team and will report directly to the Head of Tax Controversy and Risk.
YOUR ROLE. Responsibilities include but not limited to:- Representing clients in IRS and other authorities' tax controversy matters, including interacting with clients, engagement team members and IRS/state personnel
- Researching complex federal and state tax topics and drafting and/or reviewing technical memoranda and tax alerts
- Ensuring timely handling and identification of technical topics for training tax team members
- Assisting client teams with complex transactions to identify risk areas prior to transactions being executed
- Assisting clients and engagement teams in identifying potential risk areas
- Assisting with internal and external presentations
- Being a tax technical resource to the Tax practice
- Assisting in reviewing/enhancing tax policies and procedures to enhance quality and reduce risk
YOUR EXPERIENCE. The successful candidate will have: - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA, EA, JD or LLM preferred
- IRS or solid controversy experience desirable
- 6+ years of broad, relevant experience in tax compliance, tax accounting, or tax consulting
- Strong technical skills in tax concepts and rules
- Good analytical skills and attention to detail
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Good interpersonal and organizational skills and intuition
- Team player; ability to work effectively and independently with guidance in an environment of deadlines and concurrent projects
- Proficiency in the use of Word, Excel, Power Point and various tax research tools.
