Job DescriptionPosition Summary:
The Manager, Tax will support the Canadian tax compliance, reporting and related tax matters for Brookfield's Private Equity Group. Working with the broader tax team and stakeholders, this role offers an excellent opportunity for career development and growth as a tax professional in a highly dynamic and challenging work environment.
This is a hands-on role with responsibility for managing key tax compliance and reporting processes, reviewing work prepared by internal and external resources, identifying and resolving tax issues, and supporting the ongoing maintenance of investment and holding structures. The role will work closely with members of the broader tax team, finance, treasury, legal, private funds teams, portfolio companies and external tax advisors.
Responsibilities:
- Preparation of the quarterly tax provision in accordance with IFRS and US GAAP;
- Manage the preparation of Canadian tax compliance for our private equity funds and related entities (i.e., corporations, partnerships, trusts, foreign reporting returns and other returns/elections) which are largely outsourced to external service providers;
- Coordination with external financial statement auditors and internal stakeholders to collect information, address technical questions and ensure the timeliness and accuracy of tax filings;
- Assistance with tax aspects of internal reorganizations, distributions and other transactions;
- Preparation and review of various tax calculations/tracking of tax attributes (basis, losses, surplus, etc.), including requisite documentation for the file;
- Preparation of responses to audit queries and information requests from taxation authorities;
- Facilitation of tax instalments and other tax payments as required;
- Develop effective working relationships with senior team members and external tax advisors and coordinate their work across assigned compliance and advisory matters.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- CPA/CA designation with a minimum of 5 years of tax experience;
- Completion of the CPA in-depth tax program(s) or Master of Taxation;
- Corporate tax experience in an accounting firm or in industry with a large tax group;
- Experience with Canadian tax compliance and tax accounting;
- Experience with corporate income tax audits by the Canada Revenue Agency;
- Experience with the global minimum tax regime is an asset;
- Ability to multi-task and work in a dynamic environment;
- Organized, detail-oriented and able to effectively communicate with internal and external parties (including service providers and government tax auditors);
- Desire to learn and further develop skills across tax and finance.
Estimated Compensation:$125 to $145k
