Position Summary: The Spiritual Care Manager provides operational, clinical, and program leadership for Spiritual Care services across inpatient and outpatient settings. This position supervises chaplaincy staff and, as applicable, chaplain interns/residents and pastoral care volunteers; supports daily staffing and service coverage; and partners with the Director to advance high-quality, patient-centered spiritual care across the continuum of oncology care. The Manager ensures that spiritual and emotional needs are identified and addressed through compassionate assessment, care planning, documentation, interdisciplinary collaboration, crisis response, end-of-life support, and staff consultation. The role also leads program development, including development and oversight of a Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program, performance improvement, regulatory readiness, education, community and faith leader engagement, and donor or philanthropic partnership activities that strengthen whole-person care at City of Hope. In the absence of the Director, the Spiritual Care Manager may assume delegated administrative responsibility for Spiritual Care operations.
As a successful candidate, you will: The Spiritual Care Manager reports to the Director and is responsible for staff supervision, clinical consultation, program operations, and independent resolution of routine administrative and operational matters. The Manager collaborates with interdisciplinary leaders, physicians, nurses, social workers, supportive care colleagues, community partners, and faith leaders to ensure spiritual care is integrated into patient, family, caregiver, and staff support.
PERSONNEL AND STAFF LEADERSHIP Provide daily supervision, coaching, mentoring, and support for chaplaincy staff, chaplain interns/residents as applicable, and pastoral care volunteers.
Monitor staffing coverage, adjust schedules as needed, and support equitable distribution of inpatient, outpatient, crisis, weekend, holiday, and on-call responsibilities.
Recruit, hire, orient, train, and retain spiritual care team members in collaboration with the Director and Human Resources.
PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT, IMPLEMENTATION, AND EVALUATION Partner with the Director to develop, implement, and evaluate Spiritual Care programs, services, workflows, and educational initiatives.
Use program data, service trends, patient/family/staff feedback, and quality metrics to identify needs and recommend improvements.
Develop and sustain a high-quality pastoral care volunteer program, including recruitment, training, supervision, scope definition, and ongoing education.
Your qualifications should include: - Masters in Divinity or equivalent
- 5 years spiritual care counseling experience in hospital or hospice setting with 1 year of leadership experience.
- 4 units CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education)
