138,500 - 169,300

Salary for the candidate will be determined taking into consideration a number of factors including: experience, skills, qualifications, anticipated contribution to role, internal equity, etc. The salary range presented above is based on a 35-hour workweek and would represent a majority of different candidate profiles. We're looking for a
Manager at
Intact Specialty Solutions in
West to lead a team of underwriters delivering profitable growth in a specialty non-standard portfolio. You'll balance production and portfolio management with quality, compliance, and people leadership, while strengthening broker relationships and elevating underwriting capability across the team.
What you'll do here:
Team leadership & development:
- Coach and develop underwriters through day-to-day guidance, file reviews, feedback, and formal training plans.
- Establish goals and monitor progress against the department business plan and service standards.
- Lead regular team meetings to communicate priorities, operational updates, and gather feedback.
Broker & market leadership:
- Own key broker relationships; maintain a regular rhythm of account planning, pipeline reviews, and performance updates.
- Partner with Business Development to strengthen broker portfolio performance and develop new opportunities.
- Lead negotiations on larger/complex accounts and provide escalation support to underwriters.
- Promote products and appetite through broker training, information sessions, and market-facing communication.
Portfolio & profitability:
- Build and manage a profitable book of business aligned to product appetite and underwriting authority.
- Set and track portfolio performance targets (premium, retention, loss ratio, rate adequacy) and take action to improve results.
- Review/audit underwriting files and decisions to ensure adherence to guidelines, authority levels, and company standards.
- Authorize and support complex new business, renewals, endorsements, and exceptions within delegated authority.
Operational excellence:
- Maintain service levels by monitoring workflow, setting priorities, and removing roadblocks to productivity.
- Collaborate cross-functionally (claims, operations, finance, product, compliance) to improve outcomes and customer/broker experience.
- Navigate internal and market change with clear communication and steady execution.
What you bring to the table:
- University and/or College Degree or any combination of equivalent education and experience
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in P&C insurance
- Previous supervisory experience required
- Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation is an asset
- Ability to provide strategic direction, to transmit and share information to different target audiences.
- Ability to execute short- and long-term strategic priorities
- Build relationships based on trust and collaboration with different groups and to influence business priorities.
- Strong set of soft skills including interpersonal, organizational and time management skills, communication and skills
- Able to navigate changes internally and in the market
- Open to some travel (15-20%)
- No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.
