Full Job Description
The Marketplace and App Experiences domain is the main pillar of our core consumer strategy, driving the user journey across all of our frontend surfaces: iOS, Android, and Web. The teams span across multiple products and areas to engage and provide value to our customers, starting with the Home hub in the app or website, which expands into the various product offers and journeys a user can embark on with Affirm, including providing cohesive user experiences for a user's credit journey or purchasing power with Affirm, and redesigns of the broader visuals and experience. We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the team at the forefront of our front-end facing cross-team projects, working closely with other teams and engineers across our mobile and web technologies, while also evolving and collaborating with every product experience team at Affirm.

As an Engineering Manager on our Consumer team, you'll help define how millions of consumers experience Affirm across our mobile apps, web experiences, and future consumer surfaces.

What You'll Do
  • You will lead and grow a well-balanced team of engineers - setting clear expectations, giving direct feedback, and developing each engineer toward their next level.
  • You will own the team's technical strategy and multi-quarter roadmap, tying it to major experience initiatives that build customer trust and move Affirm's business, including large-scale redesigns and structural improvements to the consumer journey.
  • You will empower your tech lead and engineers to hold the design and quality bar, supporting them hands-on throughout technical design and cross-functional alignment.
  • You will own the availability, reliability, and performance of consumer-critical systems - on-call, incident response, and reducing operational toil.
  • You will drive alignment across multiple organizations and influence roadmaps on partner experience and foundational teams.
  • You will partner across Product, Design, and Analytics, and other Engineering teams, building trust and taking part in cross-functional efforts.

What We Look For
  • You have 7+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years managing and growing engineering teams.
  • You have proven experience delivering consumer-facing software and driving execution through ambiguity.
  • You have the technical judgment required to guide architecture, quality, and reliability decisions, with the instinct to empower senior engineers to make the calls rather than making them all yourself.
  • You have experience leading significant technical initiatives end-to-end, ideally decoupling or re-platforming consumer-facing systems within clear time constraints.
  • You are familiar with modern full-stack development - declarative UI frameworks like React or React Native, and a backend-for-frontend behind them.
  • You have a calm, decisive presence through change and ambiguity - building alignment, resolving tensions, and leading others through complex decisions.
  • You are a humble, team-first leader who builds a high-trust, psychologically safe culture, while also prioritizing your own growth.
  • You have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance customer needs, business goals, and technical constraints.
  • You exhibit exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and organizational influence skills.
  • You have a proven ability to build alignment and drive outcomes in complex environments without direct authority.
  • This position requires either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor's degree in a related field.
