Your Responsibilities

As the Manager of Software Deployment at John Deere Intelligent Solutions Group located onsite in either Urbandale or Waterloo, IA; Fargo, ND or Silvis, IL.

We are investing in advanced technologies and connected solutions that enable our customers to produce more with less. As the Manager, Software Deployment Systems, you will play a critical role in shaping how software is delivered to intelligent machines, helping ensure our products continuously improve long after they leave the factory. In this role, you will lead a global engineering team responsible for developing and operating systems that deploy machine software, from factory provisioning to over-the-air (OTA) updates across machines in the field. You will help define and scale how software capabilities are deployed securely, reliably, and efficiently to support our customers worldwide. You will combine technical leadership, people leadership, and strategic execution, working across product, engineering, and product family teams to drive innovation and deliver measurable business value.

Leadership & Strategy
  • Lead a global, cross-functional engineering team responsible for deployment platforms, OTA systems, and factory provisioning
  • Translate organizational strategy into actionable plans, ensuring alignment with broader mission and goals
  • Manage a portfolio of complex engineering initiatives aligned to business objectives and delivery commitments

Technical Delivery & Execution
  • Lead development and implementation of reprogramming infrastructure and deployment tools supporting embedded systems across factory, engineering, and aftermarket environments
  • Drive delivery of scalable, secure, and reliable deployment capabilities for embedded and cyber-physical systems
  • Ensure software releases meet safety, quality, and regulatory requirements
  • Foster adoption of modern engineering practices including CI/CD, automated testing, and observability

Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement
  • Establish metrics and feedback loops to monitor deployment success, system health, and customer impact
  • Manage project portfolio, resources, and budgets to deliver against business objectives
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve processes, systems, and engineering practices

People Leadership & Talent Development
  • Lead and develop a high-performing global engineering organization, including managers and technical professionals
  • Set clear performance expectations, provide coaching, and ensure accountability for results
  • Build organizational capability through development planning, training, and mentoring

Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
  • Partner closely with Product Management, Architecture, hardware, embedded, and cloud engineering teams
  • Build trusted cross-functional relationships and act as a key engineering leader across the organization

What Skills You Need

  • 5+ years experience leading engineering teams delivering complex systems in scaled environments
  • 5+ years experience in embedded or cyber-physical systems (e.g., automotive, industrial, agricultural)
  • Extensive experience with software deployment infrastructure, tooling, and large-scale technology initiatives
  • Strong knowledge of software delivery pipelines (CI/CD, release management, versioning)
  • Proven ability to lead global, distributed agile teams and drive cross-functional alignment
  • Experience developing and executing technology strategies and roadmaps
  • Strong planning, execution, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

Education

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Formal Systems Engineering education or experience is a strong plus
