Job Description:

Manager, Social & Communities

Franklin, TN

On-site

The Manager, Social & Communities, is a key part of the transformational journey to data driven brand building with the aim of transforming the way we connect with the pet parents; and building relationships with them at the heart of everything we do.

The Manager, Social & Communities, will own the strategy and execution of owned content for one or more Pet Nutrition brands, including always-on, creator, and the real-time, agile, culturally attuned layer of reactive content. Where traditional social roles run the planned content calendar, this role will manage the cultural moments, trend participation, real-time creative, and rapid-response content and consumer engagement that lives and dies in hours, not weeks.

What are we looking for?
  • Bachelor's degree preferred previous relevant expereince required
  • 5+ years in social media, with meaningful time inside brand or agency roles specifically doing reactive and real-time work; brand side experience valuable
  • CPG experience valuable - multi-brand environments build the editorial discipline this role requires
  • Track record of brand moments that earned organic reach without paid support
  • Platform-native content creation experience, not just management
  • Previous experience with organic search and paid media
  • Demonstrated experience operating in compressed approval environments without sacrificing brand integrity
  • Experience working in matrixed environments with brand, legal, comms, and creative partners

What would be your key responsibilities?

Cultural Listening & Trend Identification
  • Uses Social Listening to monitor cultural conversations, platform-specific trends, meme cycles, and category discourse; identifies moments the brand can credibly enter.
  • Brings editorial judgment on what to enter, what to skip, and what to watch.

Real-Time Content Creation
  • Briefs, approves, and often creates reactive content within hours; works with in-house and agency creators, lean production resources, and platform-native formats.
  • Translates brand voice natively into each platform - including TikTok, Instagram, X, Reddit, YouTube Shorts, emerging platforms.

Rapid Approval Workflows
  • Operates within the speed-and-trust infrastructure the Director has built; works with legal, brand, and leadership counterparts so reactive content doesn't die in review.

Community Strategy
  • Delivers strategic POV for Community Engagement, setting clear guardrails, direction, and coaching for the Community Manager, enabling meaningful community growth that protects brand reputation, supports brand ambitions, and drives advocacy.
  • Partners with cross-functional teams including Corporate Affairs and Consumer Care for Risk Mitigation workflows, deliver consistent and approved responses on key topics that support brand perception and AEO/GEO strategies
  • Sets and maintains the brand's conversational voice for use in comments, replies, and quote-posts, and models TOV for consistency across the team

Performance Feedback Loop
  • Partners with analytics to learn what's working in real time; adjusts posture and tactics continuously, not quarterly
  • Delivers relevant insights to brand partners, enabling strategic business decisions grounded in voice of pet parent feedback.
  • Supports strategic social KPI framework and uses performance metrics to inform social strategy and real-time decision making.

Cross-Functional Partnership
  • Dotted line manager to the Community Manager, day-to-day partner to the Influencer Sr. Manager and Manager (for amplification and integration of content and messaging), brand teams, content operations, and External Affairs on cultural moments and reactive work.

What can you expect from Mars?
  • Opportunity to bring your pet to work.
  • Commitment to create a safe, healthy, and sustainable world for our partners and the communities in which we operate.
  • Commitment to make A Better World For Pets™ a world where they're healthy, happy and welcome
  • Commitment to our consumers and focus on positively impacting the planet and the population.
