Full Job Description

Our client, a manufacturer in the lawn and care industry, is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Accounting Manager to lead core accounting functions while partnering closely with FP&A and operational teams across multiple entities, including retail operations, (Big Box)

This role is responsible for overseeing the full accounting lifecycle, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strengthening internal controls, and supporting strategic financial planning and analysis. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader, with both Accounting and Finance experience, who can operate independently, build structure, and drive both accounting excellence and business insights in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Core Accounting & Financial Close

  • Lead and manage the monthly process across multiple entities
  • Ensure timely & accurate preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Oversee general ledger activity, journal entries, account reconciliations, and close schedules
  • Maintain and enforce standardized accounting policies and procedures across entities
  • Review and approve accounting transactions and ensure proper documentation
  • Manage intercompany transactions, reconciliations, and consolidations

Audit, Compliance & Internal Controls

  • Prepare audit schedules, support documentation, and resolve audit findings
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve internal controls and compliance processes
  • Ensure adherence to GAAP, regulatory requirements, and company policies
  • Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks

Cost Accounting & Inventory Management

  • Lead cost accounting processes, including standard costing, variance analysis, and margin analysis
  • Partner with operations to monitor inventory valuation, turnover, and obsolescence
  • Ensure accurate inventory accounting and reconciliation across systems
  • Support manufacturing & supply chain teams with cost insights and financial analysis
  • Drive improvements in inventory controls and costing methodologies

Support Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)

Partner with FP&A on budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling

  • Analyze financial results and provide variance explanations vs. budget and prior year
  • Support development of KPIs and performance reporting dashboards
  • Assist in monthly reporting packages and management presentations

Retail Finance & Operational Support

  • Support financial reporting and analysis for retail operations
  • Monitor retail performance metrics, including sales, margins, and inventory trends
  • Analyze costs and identify opportunities for improved profitability and efficiency
  • Partner cross-functionally with sales, operations, and marketing teams
