Roadrunner’s ability to deliver freight safely, reliably, and on schedule depends on the performance, availability, and compliance of its fleet. The Manager, Regional Maintenance plays a critical role in ensuring that tractors, trailers, facilities, and maintenance programs operate at peak effectiveness across the network while maintaining strict adherence to regulatory standards and budget expectations.
This position serves as a strategic partner to terminal operations, safety, and leadership teams by building maintenance programs that improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, control operating costs, and strengthen compliance performance. Success in this role means creating standardized maintenance practices, driving accountability across locations, developing strong vendor partnerships, and leveraging data to improve fleet performance across the Roadrunner network.

What you’ll do1. Lead Fleet Maintenance Strategy & Compliance- Develop, implement, and continuously improve maintenance programs, processes, and policies across regional Roadrunner facilities.
- Ensure fleet maintenance operations exceed federal, state, and company compliance standards, including DOT, OSHA, CARB, and CSA requirements.
- Conduct field maintenance audits and partner with terminal leadership to drive corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Inspect fleet equipment and evaluate vendor repair quality to ensure consistent maintenance standards and operational reliability.
- Support safety and compliance initiatives through proactive maintenance planning, risk mitigation, and regulatory readiness.
2. Drive Fleet Reliability & Operational Performance- Oversee maintenance performance across Class 8 tractors, van trailers, and associated fleet assets.
- Monitor equipment utilization, downtime, repair trends, and preventive maintenance effectiveness to maximize fleet availability.
- Partner with operations teams to align maintenance priorities with service commitments and customer expectations.
- Support breakdown response efforts and facilitate timely resolutions that minimize operational disruption.
- Identify root causes of recurring maintenance challenges and implement sustainable corrective actions.
3. Optimize Costs & Vendor Performance- Analyze maintenance expenses, repair trends, and fleet performance metrics to identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Collaborate with vendors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to ensure quality service, pricing consistency, and operational efficiency.
- Audit vendor repairs and maintenance spend to ensure accountability and return on investment.
- Support strategic sourcing initiatives and parts procurement processes across the network.
- Drive cost control measures while maintaining safety, reliability, and service standards.
4. Standardize Processes & Continuous Improvement- Generate operational and maintenance performance reports to identify trends and improvement opportunities by location.
- Develop, maintain, and implement Standard Work Instructions (SWIs) to improve consistency across the maintenance organization.
- Lead process improvement initiatives that strengthen fleet performance, compliance, and organizational efficiency.
- Support enterprise projects and strategic initiatives sponsored by executive leadership.
- Leverage maintenance systems and data analytics to improve decision-making and operational visibility.
5. Build Strong Cross-Functional Partnerships- Serve as a trusted maintenance subject matter expert for terminal leadership, operations, safety, and executive teams.
- Provide training, coaching, and technical guidance to field personnel and maintenance stakeholders.
- Foster a unified "one-team" approach through proactive communication and collaboration across the organization.
- Maintain effective relationships with customers, vendors, drivers, and business partners.
- Influence operational outcomes by aligning maintenance strategies with broader business goals.
What you bringRequired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university preferred; technical school training or equivalent experience will be considered.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in fleet maintenance, mechanical systems, equipment reliability, and maintenance cost analysis.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience managing maintenance operations, programs, or regional initiatives.
- Extensive knowledge of Class 8 truck and van trailer maintenance operations.
- Strong understanding of trailer systems, including brakes, suspension, tires, lighting, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Experience developing and implementing maintenance programs, policies, and operational standards.
- Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, CARB, CSA, and other applicable transportation and safety regulations.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to travel approximately 25% of the time throughout the Roadrunner network.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with fleet maintenance management systems such as M5, TMT, Dossier, or similar platforms.
- Strong reporting, data analysis, and performance measurement capabilities.
- Working knowledge of project management methodologies, tools, and execution frameworks.
- Ability to leverage operational and maintenance data to drive informed business decisions.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience as a diesel mechanic, trailer maintenance technician, or fleet maintenance professional.
- Experience supporting multi-site transportation, trucking, logistics, or fleet operations environments.
- Background in large-scale maintenance program implementation and process standardization.
- Experience managing vendor relationships and maintenance service providers.
- Lean, continuous improvement, or operational excellence experience is highly valued.

Compensation & Setup- Compensation: $85,000 - $90,000 annual base salary
