We are investing heavily in improving user experience and leveraging AI capabilities in new and existing core newsroom products to empower broadcast and digital journalists, editors, directors, producers, and other content creators - and drive efficiency, unlock innovation, and enable smarter, faster decision-making across the organization.

Product Design Manager, Newsroom is an experienced design leader who enjoys collaborating with designers, product, engineering, research, editorial, data, marketing, content strategy and business leadership to build efficient user workflows and intuitive storytelling tools. This is an incredible opportunity to join the CNN Product Design Team and to envision and design industry-leading editorial experiences for creating news content consumed by millions of audiences across the globe.

Your Role Accountabilities...

  • Be an integral part of the product design team, working with cross-functional team leaders on creating the next generation of CNN's editorial experiences for broadcast and digital news production, from small iterative improvements to long term vision.


  • Drive the product design strategy for the future of newsroom products, while advocating for its users with a strong sense of empathy, business goals, and industry at scale


  • Be both strategic and creative, with the ability to prioritize and deliver via hands-on execution and influence.


  • Establish a high performing team structure, including people management, professional development, and mentorship responsibilities for individual team members.


  • Empower and manage designers, fostering a cohesive, committed, passionate, productive, and positive environment within a growing team.


  • Create opportunities for ideation, team building, and collaborative design thinking across the team through workshops, onsites, design sprints, and other team activities.


  • Be highly communicative and responsive both within your team and across the company while managing a large volume of active workstreams.


  • Steer the holistic view of your product suite across integration (user and technical) points to provide a superior seamless product experience and strong change management support.


  • Create end-to-end customer journeys that inform new product features and promote new businesses.


  • Employ user research, and analytics data to develop a deep understanding of how users engage, what matters to them and identify pain points.


  • Contribute to the product design priorities to inform strategic roadmap, translating business needs into creative and user experience opportunities.


  • Create information architecture diagrams, experience journeys, user flows, wireframes, design mockups and interactive, AI-powered prototypes, and alignment documentation to effectively conceptualize and communicate design solutions and vision.


  • Champion our design principles, design systems and product roadmap, and serve our editorial teams' needs.


  • Play a role in shaping the future of CNN's publishing platform by collaborating with stakeholders and team members to brainstorm, envision, and validate new features and functionalities.


Qualifications & Experience...

  • 8+ years as a product designer, with at least 2 recent years in content/media management systems and/or internal tooling or enterprise productivity tooling work.


  • 2+ years of management experience.


  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities and facilitation skills.


  • Proven track record of empowering and managing a diverse team of designers, with a focus on helping them grow and succeed.


  • A mastery of Figma and some AI prototyping expertise using Cursor, Claude Code, Figma Make, or similar tools.


  • Proficiency in utilizing, creating and modifying design system components to create scalable, delightful user experiences.


  • Experience working within large-scale or enterprise organizations, requiring patience and proactive communication along each step of the design process. Bonus points for experience in news/media.


  • A demonstrated ability to manage complex design challenges and a strong record of fostering cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder alignment.


  • Mastery of and ability to guide others on best practices of user experience design, including usability principles, user research methodology, testing techniques (A/B, Multi-Variant), design theory, and interaction design.


  • Bachelor's degree in design, human-computer interaction (HCI), or equivalent professional experience


  • Willingness to take smart risks, champion new ideas, roll up your sleeves, and get things done.
