About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced procurement leader to shape the future of procurement at one of Canada's leading research universities. Reporting to the Director, Financial Operations, the Manager of Procurement Services provides leadership to a team of procurement professionals while influencing strategic sourcing, contract management and procurement governance across the institution.

The successful candidate will help modernize procurement processes, strengthen supplier relationships, and advance institutional priorities in sustainability, Indigenous procurement, ethical sourcing, and corporate social responsibility. Working with senior leaders, faculty and external partners, this role combines strategic leadership with practical problem-solving to ensure procurement delivers value, manages risk, and supports SFU's mission of teaching, research, and community engagement.

The successful candidate is an accomplished professional who enjoys leading people as much as leading change. They bring extensive public sector procurement experience, sound judgment, integrity, and strong interpersonal skills. As a trusted advisor, they are skilled at navigating complex procurement challenges and collaborating across a diverse university community. They view procurement as a strategic business function that enables organizational success rather than simply ensuring compliance.

The ideal candidate is committed to sustainable and ethical procurement practices by advancing the UN SDGs and creating meaningful opportunities for Indigenous businesses. The candidate will have a university degree in business, supply chain management, or a related field, together with a nationally recognized professional designation. Graduate education and progressively responsible leadership experience in public procurement are considered strong assets.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Supply Chain Management, or a related discipline, with a professional designation such as SCMP (or equivalent), and 8 years of progressive procurement experience, including leadership experience, preferably in a public sector environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

• Expert knowledge of public procurement law, trade agreements, and strategic sourcing.
• Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to provide trusted advice and build consensus.
• Demonstrated leadership with a proven ability to develop high-performing teams.
• Experience leading complex public procurement processes, including competitive bidding, contract negotiations and contract drafting.
• Experience integrating sustainability and ethical sourcing into procurement strategies and practices.
• Experience advancing Indigenous business engagement through respectful partnerships and procurement strategies that expand opportunities for Indigenous businesses and advance reconciliation.

The pay range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for the position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the pay range.
