The Manager, Platform Engineering is a hands-on technical leader responsible for designing, building, and operating scalable platform capabilities across hybrid infrastructure environments. This role leads a distributed team of engineers focused on cloud platforms, infrastructure automation, developer enablement, observability, and platform reliability. The Platform Engineering Manager drives standardization, self-service capabilities, infrastructure as code, and continuous improvement to improve developer productivity, operational efficiency, and business agility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS:- Lead the development and operation of shared platform services across on-premises and cloud environments (Azure, VMware, Hyper-V, etc.).
- Drive platform engineering practices including infrastructure as code, automation, self-service provisioning, and reusable platform components.
- Build and enhance internal developer platforms that improve application delivery speed, consistency, and reliability.
- Implement and manage observability, monitoring, and operational tooling to ensure platform health and performance.
- Partner with security, architecture, infrastructure, and application teams to deliver secure and scalable platform solutions.
- Establish platform standards, reference architectures, and engineering best practices.
- Own platform availability, scalability, performance, and operational readiness metrics.
- Lead cloud transformation and modernization initiatives.
- Develop documentation, platform runbooks, standards, and operational procedures.
- Coach and mentor engineers while fostering a culture of ownership, automation, and continuous improvement.
- Participate in major incident management and support operational escalations as needed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:- This position supervises platform engineers. Manages and directs three employees' training, development, appraisal, and work assignments.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:- 7+ years of experience in infrastructure, cloud, platform engineering, or related disciplines.
- Strong hands-on experience with Azure IaaS, VMware, Hyper-V, Windows/Linux servers, and hybrid cloud environments.
- Deep experience with automation and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, PowerShell, Ansible, or similar technologies.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and developer enablement platforms.
- Experience implementing observability, monitoring, and platform operations tooling.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and leadership skills.

WORK SCHEDULE/HOURS:Hybrid work model: Monday - Thursday onsite, Friday remote. May include nights, weekends, and a 24/7 on-call rotation during outages.
