Starting salary is determined through qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.Date Posted: August 13, 2026Posting Close: August 27, 2026Position DescriptionReporting to the Director, Research, Evaluation and Bioethics, the Manager, Philanthropy will play a key role in advancing the mandate and mission of the Surrey Place Charitable Foundation. This position is responsible for building and stewarding strong donor relationships, growing unrestricted and major gift revenue, positioning Surrey Place as a charity of choice, and securing philanthropic resources required to create meaningful impact across the communities we serve.
The Manager, Philanthropy will also be responsible for leading the full lifecycle of major and planned gifts and will contribute to the development and execution of the annual giving strategy to grow donor participation and overall revenue.
Main ResponsibilitiesMajor and Planned Giving: - Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive strategies for major and planned gift prospects, including identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Build and manage a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects.
- Grow unrestricted and major gift revenue with a focus on retention and long-term value.
- Lead donor discovery meetings and develop tailored cultivation and solicitation plans.
- Prepare compelling and strategic foundation proposals, cases for support, and impact reports.
- Ensure meaningful stewardship and recognition aligned with donor intent and the Foundation's priorities.
Annual Giving and Donor Engagement: - Manage and grow a portfolio of donors and prospective donors.
- Support the development and execution of the annual giving strategy.
- Implement initiatives to increase donor acquisition, retention, and upgrades.
- Collaborate with internal teams to deliver integrated, mission-focused fundraising campaigns.
- Monitor fundraising performance and adjust strategies to achieve revenue targets.
- Acknowledge that current donors are the organization's top prospects and lead accordingly to recognize them for their investments with professional stewardship activities, communications, and impact reporting.
Strategy, Planning & Collaboration: - Work collaboratively with other members of the Foundation team to support the goals of the Foundation and revenue targets.
- Serve as an ambassador for the Foundation, strengthening relationships with donors, volunteers, and community partners.
- Represent the Foundation at community events and networking opportunities.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of donor interactions and revenue forecasting.
- Contribute to fundraising planning, goal setting, and performance reporting.
- Liaise with Marketing and Communications to develop foundation materials.
- Liaise with Finance Department to develop budgets, tax receipts, track earnings and prepare reports, as needed.
- Lead and collaborate in the development and publication of all necessary materials, philanthropic proposals, cases for support, letters, reports and acknowledgements for cultivation and stewardship of partners.
- Work with colleagues to plan and execute proposals and targeting communication plans for new, existing and potential donors.
- Provide insights on donor trends, pipeline development, and growth opportunities.
- Support a culture of philanthropy across the organization.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Fundraising, Non-Profit Management, Communications, Business Administration, or related field.
- CFRE certification or working toward CFRE designation is required.
- 5 years' progressive fundraising experience, with demonstrated success in major gift development and a track record in securing individual gifts at meaningful levels.
- Demonstrated ability to build, cultivate, and steward donor relationships.
- Experience working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders to support diverse projects and proposals.
- Excellent knowledge and experience managing and overseeing clear work plans, metrics, research and donor models.
- Demonstrated knowledge in process improvement, change management and project management methodologies.
- Ability to manage multiple initiatives and thrive in an evolving work environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written) including proposal writing and presentation skills.
- Strategic thinker and results-oriented, with strong organizational, collaboration, negotiation, influencing, and decision-making skills.
- High level of integrity, attention to detail, discretion, and confidentiality.
- Experience working in Donor Management software.
- Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- A satisfactory Police Records Check (Vulnerable Sector Screening).
- Fluency in French is considered an asset.
