Job Description

The Manager of Pharmacy is tasked with overseeing Pharmacy Services. This includes strategic planning, daily operations, and aligning Northwestern Medicine's goals and strategies with the Work Unit/Department's strategic plan. Additionally, they collaborate with clinical leadership to define and implement clinical and distributive services, manage pharmaceutical educational programs, and manage financial and personnel management.

Responsibilities:
  • Plans staffing requirements, hires to meet needs, and schedules to ensure efficient management of pharmacy resources and workflow
  • Cooperates with peers in the scheduling and sharing of personnel resources
  • Assists with development of talent across sections in technical, clinical, and management positions through early assessment of high potential; individual development plans; direct mentoring and monitoring of development plans; succession planning
  • Coaches and monitors staff to ensure compliance with standards and improvement in performance
  • Uses appropriate resources to implement department, hospital, and health system policies and procedures
  • Implements NM performance management process
  • Adheres to Values-Based Leadership Model: Fosters patients first mission and prioritize our people; value and promote teamwork, deliver and expect excellence; act with integrity
  • Ensure programmatic goals and evaluations are delivered for pharmacy students and/or residents at the practice site
  • Assume twenty-four-hour accountability for quality of patient care, human resources, and overall department function
  • Develops department-based goals to support hospital and division mission and objectives
  • Uses appropriate resources within the hospital and department to provide consultation, education, technical, or information services to provide optimum pharmacy care
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, local, and regulatory policies and procedures
  • Facilitates a multi-disciplinary and collaborative approach to patient care and inter-departmental problem solving and service delivery
  • Develops and maintains relationships with all customers
  • Ensures that service standards are developed, implemented, and evaluated
  • Creates an environment of high morale and motivated professionals
  • Develops cost center capital budget and submits for approval
  • Develops major equipment purchase proposals, selection, prepares documents for equipment acquisition
  • Develops and participates in facility changes and planning
  • Works with physicians in developing criteria for drug use and in implementing and monitoring the criteria
  • Works with physicians on the resolution of distributive and clinical issues
  • Identifies and pursue activities and development opportunities which are appropriate for position and personal development
  • Meets the responsibilities of the Designated Person as outlined in USP standards.


Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelor of Science or Doctor of Pharmacy from accredited College of Pharmacy
  • Illinois Licensed Pharmacist
  • 3-5 years of experience in a health care institution or equivalent advanced Pharmacy residency/fellowship training
  • Effective oral/written communication skills with all levels of internal and external customers
  • Home Infusion:
    • 5 years' experience in Home Infusion, acute care, or specialty pharmacy
  • Procurement Operations:
    • Consulting or group presentation skills
    • Strong negotiation skills
    • Demonstrated ability to facilitate change and achieve savings goals
    • Operational knowledge of pharmacy technology, and automation systems

Preferred:
  • Pharmacy management experience
  • MBA, MHA, or PGY2 residency in Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership
