About the Manager of Operations Position

An Operations Manager (OM) leads all activities within the Operating Area that result in the safe and effective operation of Colonial's facilities and ensures the transportation and delivery of products to the satisfaction of Colonial's customers. Your chief objective is to achieve safety, system integrity and Operational Excellence by leading and managing employee performance and behavior toward the application of organizational programs, policies, and plans. An Operations Manager is also the primary face of the company to both internal and external audiences, and is responsible for taking action proactively to address customer needs, and to represent the company in interactions with the community and regulatory bodies.

  • Responsibilities include all operational activities, performance management of staff, safety, quality control, budgeting, compliance and regulatory matters. In addition, the Manager interacts with customers, including power generation plants, local distribution companies and pipeline transmission interconnects.
  • Leads, promotes, and ensures development of employees to create well-trained, effective and productive work teams.
  • Lead fuel optimization operations and support associated projects.
  • Clearly communicates and evaluates performance expectations, providing ongoing and timely feedback and coaching to improve employee performance.
  • Demonstrates leadership and influences across functions to drive continuous improvement, innovation, and organizational excellence.
  • Builds and maintains constructive relationships with local shippers, government agencies and community groups. Continually prepares for and actively represents the company during governmental agency, shipper, and internal audits.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining appropriate relationships with state and local emergency response officials and first responders.


What You Bring to the Table:
  • Associate's degree in a technical or business related field of study from an accredited college or university; will consider a combination of experience and/or education.
  • Ideally, 5 years of operations or business experience in pipeline operations or related industry experience; supervisory experience.
  • Valid Driver's License and acceptable driving record to drive company and personal vehicles to perform required tasks.
  • Ability to utilize effective leadership skills in guiding individuals/departments (subordinates, peers, superiors) or groups toward task accomplishment.
  • Broad interpersonal skills with ability to adjust communication style and can influence up, down and across the organization.
  • Working knowledge of safety regulations and regulatory requirements: i.e., knowledge of DOT 195 (PHMSA) regulations, OSHA, and state environmental regulations
  • Demonstrated knowledge of pipeline operations including tank farms, booster stations, delivery facilities, etc.
  • Commitment to consistently adhere to policies and procedures and be a positive example for others by demonstrating the Company's core values of Respect, Accountability, Innovation, Safety, and Excellence in completing work assignments.
  • Self-motivated, have a phenomenal work ethic and looking for the right company to support your growth.

  • Approximately 7-9 years of operations or business experience in pipeline operations or related industry experience if no degree; desired experience with crisis management.

Physical Requirements & Work Conditions:

Physical ability to respond to emergency situations. Job pressure: Normal pressure with occasional high stress situations during emergency response, negotiations and conflict resolution. Physical surroundings: Field Office environment, pipeline ROW, operating areas. Hazards: Must be aware of hazards associated with pipeline facilities and right of way.
