Manager of Origination

About the Role

Mission Clean Energy seeks a Manager of Origination to lead and expand our origination function as we scale our portfolio of solar and energy storage assets. This role is responsible for driving market strategy, shaping siting initiatives, and coordinating across functional teams to identify and advance high-value development opportunities. The Manager of Origination will report directly to the Vice President of Pre-Construction and will work in close partnership with Mission Clean Energy's transmission, development, engineering, and finance leadership teams.

This represents a unique opportunity to join a well-funded, exceptional team in a role that will directly shape Mission Clean Energy's growth strategy and long-term development pipeline.

Market Analysis

  • Maintain deep expertise in fundamental market conditions and evolving regulatory, legal, and policy drivers across North American energy markets, translating insights into actionable siting and development strategies.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of state and RTO/ISO incentive structures and market drivers, translating market analysis into specific, prioritized siting initiatives for solar and BESS development.
  • Partner closely with the transmission team to identify strategic areas for solar and BESS development, aligning interconnection strategy with market opportunity and transmission capacity planning across key regions.
  • Evaluate IRPs, transmission plans, and interconnection queues to identify emerging development opportunities and inform near-term and long-range portfolio strategy.
  • Lead market development strategy, driving regulatory and policy research efforts and positioning Mission to capitalize on emerging commercial opportunities.

Origination

  • Lead market intelligence efforts and maintain a comprehensive view of renewable energy offtake trends across key ISOs and utility territories. Define and prioritize target markets and offtake opportunities aligned with Mission's strategic objectives.
  • Own and manage key customer relationships, driving engagement with corporate offtakers, utilities, and market participants. Serve as a primary external face of Mission's origination function.
  • Direct RFP strategy and response efforts, providing senior oversight and cross-functional coordination across development, finance, and legal teams to deliver competitive, high-quality bids.

Siting Leadership

  • Provide strategic siting recommendations to Mission's leadership team based on market analysis and offtaker insights and translate strategic siting objectives into actionable land identification, screening, and prioritization processes for solar and BESS projects.
  • Establish and institutionalize origination best practices - integrating offtaker requirements, market entry analysis, and interconnection strategy into the greenfield development process from initial site screening through NTP

Revenue Analysis

  • Support quantitative analysis integrating technical considerations, economic factors, market rules, and regulatory/policy developments to inform strategic decisions on portfolio investment and market entry.
  • Direct financial analysis on project economics and portfolio-level investment decisions, working closely with the finance team to guide capital allocation and underwriting assumptions.
  • Manage consultant relationships and oversee the incorporation of revenue assumptions into market and project financial models, ensuring consistency and rigor across the development pipeline.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Energy Management, Finance, Business, or a related field. Master's Degree or MBA preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in the renewable energy field, with significant experience in origination, business development, or market strategy for utility-scale solar and storage projects.
  • Expertise in energy markets required, with demonstrated experience across multiple ISOs/RTOs and a strong understanding of interconnection, transmission planning, and offtake structures.
  • Proven leadership capabilities, with a track record of driving results in a fast-paced development environment.
  • Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong research, communication, and organizational skills are a must.
  • Professional and engaging disposition with counterparties/customers.
  • Ability to succinctly communicate complex issues.
  • Successful in navigating ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.
