Salary Grade: 17

The base salary will be $82,230 - $117,360 per annum. Starting salary will be aligned with the successful candidate's experience, skills, and demonstrated qualifications.

Please note, this is a 30-month temporary full-time contract opportunity that is wholly grant funded. This contract includes a comprehensive benefits package.

Responsibilities

The Manager of Operations is responsible for maintaining and increasing the overall organizational efficiency of the TRIDENT platform, providing leadership through comprehensive management, planning, oversight, and execution of key operational areas in TRIDENT- including finance, communications, data management, IT, and human resources.

The role will identify ongoing opportunities for process improvements, and design and/or revise practices, with appropriate controls, to maximize productivity and efficiency across the platform. Alongside the Research Program Director, the role will provide technical expertise and coordination, including managing budgets and monitoring expenditures to ensure compliance with the research plan and funding agency guideline and managing relationships and follow-up activities with stakeholders. The role facilitates achievement of the TRIDENT strategic plan, manages financial information, and develops reports and forecasts in compliance with funding guidelines. In collaboration with the Research Program Director, the role will collect, analyze, interpret, and present metrics, KPIs, etc., used for decision making by the Principal Investigator, the TRIDENT Executive Committee, and the TRIDENT Advisory Council as well as to facilitate reporting to the funder. The role will facilitate collaborations and successful communications between teams, investigators and other partners to maximize platform operations.

The role manages the bidirectional flow of knowledge between team members and external partners to ensure the research outputs across the team are available in an accessible manner that embraces the open science foundation of TRIDENT. Alongside the Research Program Director, the role leads the development and implementation of the stakeholder engagement and knowledge mobilization strategy to maximize the significance and reach of TRIDENT research impact to the external community including developing materials that allow the team to communicate the TRIDENT approach, capabilities and successes to various stakeholders and partners including those that are internal to Western (communications, advancement, business development) and those that are external (private sector, community and donors). The role will oversee the creation and management of a cross-university, cross-species and cross-evaluation research engagement platform designed to support knowledge translation, mobilization and impact development.

Qualifications

Education:
  • Master's Degree in medical science, neuroscience or a related field
  • Completion of, or working towards, Project Management Professional (PMP) or Knowledge Translation qualifications

Experience:
  • 5 years of related experience in knowledge mobilization within a University, NGO or government (federal, provincial or municipal) department/agency
  • 3 years of experience in a leadership role managing budgets, human resources and projects within a unionized environment, preferably in a research facility
  • Project management experience including project planning and research project development skills
  • Experience with bibliometrics and bibliometrics software including experience generating and communicating quantitative metrics in a research environment
  • Experience preparing and writing high quality research proposals and communicating research findings to academic and non-academic audiences using different approaches
  • Experience applying evaluation techniques for knowledge exchange and impact evaluation
  • Experience developing new research initiatives or supporting large scale funding applications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • In-depth knowledge of financial budgeting and principles to develop financial models, forecasts and analysis, of strategic planning processes and of Human Resources principles and practices
  • Ability to manage projects involving multiple funding sources, partners and outcomes and to work with multiple stakeholders to the achievement of a common goal
  • In-depth knowledge of academic research best practices and neuroscience to effectively meet the requirements of this position
  • Familiarity with (experience in, or working with) commercial entities such as biotechs or pharma
  • Advanced computer skills with Microsoft Office 365 (or comparable software for word processing and spreadsheets), Zoom, using a databases, and with report writing tools and software (including, but not limited to, Access, Excel, SAS, SAS Visual Analytics, and basic SQL)
  • Knowledge of Web design and maintenance using a content management system (such as Cascade)
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills within a complex, quickly moving project with often tight deadlines
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with experience communicating results to various audiences consistently and effectively
  • Self motivated with proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision within a multi-institutional collaborative team
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with faculty members as well as support internal and external stakeholders
