Hybrid: at least three to four days on site.

Occasional local travel to CJE locations and presentations. No out of state travel.

What You'll Do

  • Program Management and Supervision
    • Provides leadership for Goldberg Legal Services, ensuring appropriate client coverage, consistent legal practice, and timely resolution of operational and staffing issues.
    • Manages day-to-day operations of Goldberg Legal Services, including case assignment, caseloads, coverage, priorities, and workflow.
    • Provides legal supervision and case consultation to staff attorneys and other staff, including review of complex matters and documents when needed.
    • Supervises and mentors staff attorneys, volunteers, and interns.
    • Coordinates with Clinical Intake, Benefits Services, Care Management, Holocaust Community Services, and other CJE programs when clients have overlapping needs.
    • Maintains relationships with outside legal service partners and referral resources for matters Goldberg Legal Services does not handle.
    • Supports the Director of Legal and Financial Client Services with program planning, reporting, grant and funder information, budgeting, and service development.
  • Direct Legal Services
    • Gives direct legal assistance to clients, primarily in advance care planning, including powers of attorney, wills, and transfer on death instruments.
    • Drafts and reviews client legal documents, including powers of attorney, wills, living wills, transfer on death instruments, and related advance planning documents.
    • Stays informed and understands legal regulations, rules, and laws.
    • Participates in outreach, presentations, and community education to increase awareness of and access to Goldberg Legal Services.
    • Participates in CJE agency committees as needed.

What You'll Bring

Required qualifications

  • A JD from an ABA accredited law school.
  • At least five years of relevant legal practice experience, preferably serving older adults, or in legal services, estate and advance planning, or a related civil practice.

  • Licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois and in good standing with the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission (ARDC).

Preferred qualifications

  • Prior experience supervising, mentoring, or providing substantive legal guidance to attorneys or other professional staff.
  • Experience managing a legal services program, practice area, clinic, or significant caseload and workflow.
  • Experience working with older adults, low-income clients, or other vulnerable populations.

Work Arrangement

This role is a hybrid role with in-person work and remote work options. Presence on site is expected at least three to four days a week. Hybrid work, if offered, is offered to provide flexibility to staff, but remote work is a privilege subject to agency policy, operational needs, and satisfactory job performance.
