Posting DescriptionPrincipal Duties and Responsibilities / Essential Functions:Lead the platform architecture and build
- Own the design, build, and ongoing maintenance of our Microsoft Fabric medallion architecture (Bronze 12 Silver 12 Gold), ensuring data flows optimally from raw ingestion through conformed, analytics-ready models.
- Make and document key architectural decisions around ingestion patterns, storage, the serving layer, orchestration, and performance - balancing speed, reliability, and cost.
- Establish the engineering practices that keep the platform healthy as it scales: version control, testing, CI/CD, monitoring, and documentation.
Lead and grow the team- Guide a small team of data engineers - setting coding and design standards, running code reviews, and unblocking day-to-day work.
- Mentor engineers and help grow their technical skills, giving the team a clear sense of how "good" is defined.
- Help shape hiring and team structure as the function grows.
Build and maintain the data pipelines- Develop and operate ingestion pipelines from multiple sources - pharmacy claims, eligibility, formulary, contract data, rebate and actuarial data, and public reference APIs (e.g., NADAC, NCPDP, CMS, 340B).
- Normalize and conform data across differing PBM file specifications, formularies, and claims layouts so that downstream models are consistent and trustworthy.
- Design and evolve the conformed data model and star schema that serve as the analytical source of truth.
Serve the business- Ensure the platform reliably feeds downstream consumers: Power BI, Excel reporting, internal web applications, and AI/Copilot-ready data services.
- Serve as a point for complex reporting and data issues, guiding to resolution across reporting and data teams
- Own data quality, governance, lineage, performance, and cost optimization end to end.
- Partner with the platform architect, analytics, clinical, and product teams to align the technical roadmap with business and client priorities, and translate ambiguous requirements into concrete data solutions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional leaders to prioritize initiatives and allocate resources
Minimum Requirements for Education, Experience, and Certifications/Licenses:- 7+ years in data engineering, including 2+ years leading, mentoring, or acting as tech lead for other engineers.
- Deep experience building lakehouse / medallion architectures. Microsoft Fabric strongly preferred; comparable experience with Azure Synapse, Databricks, or similar platforms will be considered.
- Strong SQL and hands-on proficiency in Python and/or PySpark for large-scale data transformation.
- Dimensional modeling expertise - you can design and maintain star schemas that hold up as reporting needs grow.
- BI analytics fluency, including an understanding of the semantic/serving layer that makes BI performant and trustworthy.
- A track record of taming messy data - ingesting and conforming heterogeneous sources and file formats into clean, reliable models.
- Solid engineering fundamentals - data governance, data quality frameworks, and CI/CD for data pipelines.
- Strong communication skills - able to explain technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate across teams.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience with pharmacy, PBM, healthcare claims, or payer data.
- Familiarity with pharmacy data standards (NCPDP, claims file layouts) and healthcare reference data.
- Experience enabling AI/Copilot or MCP-based data access on top of a data platform.
- Broader Azure ecosystem experience (Azure SQL, data pipelines, security/RBAC, cost management).
- Experience standing up a data platform or engineering function in an early or growth-stage environment.
