Full Job Description
The Legal Talent Team at Morgan Lewis is dedicated to attracting, developing, engaging, and retaining exceptional lawyers and creating an environment in which associates can build successful, fulfilling careers.The Manager of Legal Talent plays a key role in advancing the firm's associate talent strategy. Working closely with the Chief Legal Talent Officer, firm leadership, and colleagues across Legal Talent and other business functions, the Manager develops and executes firmwide initiatives that strengthen the associate experience, deepen engagement and connection, and support the firm's position as a destination for exceptional legal talent.

This role is well suited for a highly collaborative, strategic, and relationship-oriented professional who combines strong judgment and execution with an ability to translate talent insights and market trends into practical programs and solutions.

This position can sit in any of the following office locations: Boston, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia or Washington DC and follows a hybrid schedule, with three days in the office and two days working remotely.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops, recommends, and implements strategic initiatives designed to strengthen associate engagement, connection, and retention, including flexible working initiatives, mentoring and networking programs, and other programs that enhance the associate experience.
  • Partners across Legal Talent, including Inclusion, Professional Development, Recruiting, and Coaching, to develop integrated talent strategies, programs, and learning opportunities supporting associates throughout their careers at the firm.
  • Monitors emerging trends, market practices, and innovations in legal talent and professional services, translating research and market intelligence into recommendations for firm programs and practices.
  • Partners with Marketing and Public Relations to strengthen the firm's associate talent brand through strategic communications, digital and social media content, and other external and internal channels.
  • Develops reports, presentations, and recommendations for the Chief Legal Talent Officer and firm leadership regarding key associate talent metrics and trends, including retention, attrition, engagement, and other indicators of the associate experience.
  • Develops clear and compelling communications and presentations supporting associate surveys, training programs, engagement initiatives, and other Legal Talent priorities.
  • Serves, in partnership with the Chief Legal Talent Officer, as a primary liaison to the Firmwide Global Committee on Associates and supports the committee in establishing and advancing strategic priorities, goals, and initiatives.
  • Partners closely with Human Resources on the annual non-partner lawyer year-end evaluation and compensation process, including planning, budgeting, training, communications, and reporting to firm leadership.
  • Collaborates across functions to continuously enhance key moments in the associate lifecycle, including onboarding, orientation, development, engagement, and transitions from the firm.
  • Leads the firm's strategy and administration for relevant external market surveys and works with external organizations and publications to support the firm's talent brand and reputation.
  • Leads, develops, and manages Legal Talent Coordinators, providing clear direction, coaching, feedback, and opportunities for professional growth.
  • Contributes to additional strategic Legal Talent priorities and firmwide initiatives as business and talent needs evolve.


Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and at least five years of relevant experience in talent management, human resources, professional development, attorney development, or a related field within a law firm or other professional services environment; an equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with associates, partners, senior firm leaders, and business professionals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish credibility, build trusted relationships, and collaborate effectively across functions and with individuals who bring different perspectives and working styles.
  • Demonstrated project and program management skills, including the ability to move complex, cross-functional initiatives from concept through implementation.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to use data, research, and market intelligence to identify trends, develop insights, and inform recommendations.
  • A strong commitment to client service, responsiveness, and high-quality work.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to establish priorities and manage multiple initiatives in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Demonstrated initiative, intellectual curiosity, and ability to anticipate needs, solve problems, and exercise sound independent judgment.
  • High degree of discretion and professionalism in handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability and interest to learn and leverage new technologies and tools.
  • Ability to work outside standard business hours and travel when business needs require.

For positions in Boston, MA and Chicago IL, the salary range for this position is: $114,200.00- $182,750.00.

For positions in Los Angeles, CA, the salary range for this position is: $124,200.00- $198,600.00.

For positions in Washington, D.C., the salary range for this position is: $119,200.00 - $190,675.00.

The base salary or hourly wage range for this position will be determined during the interview process and will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to prior experience, relevant expertise, current business needs, and market factors. The final salary or hourly wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances. Additionally, salary or hourly wages may be only part of the total compensation package. The total compensation package for this position may also include a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, the employee will be in an "at-will position" and the firm reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, firm or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
