Job Summary

The Manager,  Insurance Accounting will oversee and be involved in overseeing the recording and reporting of revenues and the reconciliation  processes and functions, including analytics, controls, and maintaining cross-functional relationships within accounting, finance, operations, and IT.  Ability to understand key accounting concepts around revenue recognition and deferred revenue is important.  This role also performs reviews throughout the revenue accounting process to ensure final output is in line with internal and external accounting and reporting requirements. Receives assignments in the form of objectives and determines how to use resources to meet schedules and goals. Provides guidance to direct reports regarding established policies. Recommends changes to policies and establishes procedures that impact Finance. Relies upon technical knowledge to effectively direct the work of the group. Participates in corporate development of methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for projects, processes, and people. The incumbent oversees professional and operational accounting staff and has full supervisory authority including the hiring process, performance appraisals, planning for staff development and input in the disciplinary process.

Essential Functions

• Manages and reviews operations, quality and production for a work unit or group of employees (directly and indirectly) with diverse functions and/or skill sets required for complex activities.

• Provides guidance to subordinates within the latitude of established company policies.

• Acts as advisor to subordinates to meet schedules and/or resolve technical problems.

• Develops and administers schedules and performance requirements.

• Lead  projects at all levels of complexity.

• Ensures operations and functions are performed in compliance with broad policies, precedents and professional knowledge/standards. Assist in developing such policies/procedures as requested.

• Participates in the selection of staff, ensures proper orientation and training, and works with manager to address employee relations issues in accordance with company policy. Coaches and mentors staff; Completes performance evaluations and development planning.

• Participates in and/or contributes to the development of the department budget, operational procedures and the forecasting of staffing needs.  Recommend changes to policies and establishes procedures that affect immediate organization.  Forecast employee salaries - reviews base pay,  comp ratio, and promotional eligibility; provides input to annual pay review.

• Ensures the accurate compilation, analysis and reporting of accounting data.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Understand financial transactions and financial systems and related accounting and regulatory compliance requirements.

• Strong supervisory skills, ability to clearly communicate complex information to staff with diverse skills and technical backgrounds.  Able to successfully support staff in increasing levels of performance.

• Consistently demonstrates people leadership capabilities.

• Skills to develop and implement accounting standards and train staff to consistently meet and exceed expectations.

• Very good knowledge of accounting principles, methods and systems.

• Ability to deploy resources effectively to meet operational needs of department

• Systems implementation experience• Experience with ERP Systems ie. Workday

Education & Experience / Licenses & Certification

• Bachelor's degree with emphasis on Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or equivalent.

• 5+ years previous relevant work experience.

• Staff supervision, coaching, (at least 3 years supervisory experience)

• CPA Preferred
