Overview:

Reports to: General Manager

FLSA: Non-exempt

Hours Worked:Typically, Monday through Friday, forty-hours per week. However, must be flexible to meet the needs of the department and complete other projects as assigned.

Position Summary:

The Manager I is responsible for overseeing the Global Sample Management (GSM) team. The GSM team is responsible for tracking and inventory of chemical samples. The GSM team weighs Neat compounds, solubilizes compounds, plates the solubilized compounds, and ships samples internationally. The Manager I is responsible for interviewing, hiring, and onboarding new associates additionally responsible for monitoring and maintaining production metrics across the team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Cross functional project lead.
  • Interview, hire and onboard new associates
  • Monitor production metrics and provide reports to clients
  • Data entry for required metric and tracking tools.
  • Meet 1:1 with all associates, provide feedback, expectation, goals and recognition
  • Perform annual performance reviews and set goals
  • Fill in for leads in Neat and Solubilized areas if there is a need
  • Sample capacity and quality order support and customer service.
  • Sample disposition processing based on sample capacity and quality data.
  • Staff management in alignment with scheduling work to meet client deadlines within core business hours.
  • Conduct routine walk-throughs to ensure current work practices are in alignment with client policies, GSM standard operating procedures and job aids.
  • Communication and process feedback to client on ways to continually improve processes and support for all provided services.
  • Cross functional project leader will monitor lab tasks and workload daily, and transfer staff to the area with priority work.
  • Conduct comprehensive semiannual audits to ensure current work practices are in alignment with standard operating procedures and job aids. Audit findings will be uploaded to the client.
  • Update job aids based on semiannual audits, software upgrades or process changes as requested by the client.
  • Including all responsibilities of the Technician and Lead roles as needed during peak demand for sample management activities.
  • Offer problem resolution, as applicable, for any client issues identified, highlighted, or questioned with the aim of enhancing client satisfaction and improving client relations
  • Monitor and address staffing needs and issues, prioritizing workload to ensure turnaround times and client expectations are met
  • Ensures team follows the guidelines set forth with clients and in the Company Quality, Health, Safety, Security and Environmental policies and procedures.
  • Ensures team complies with clients and Company management systems in accordance with appropriate regulatory agencies.
  • Ensures team follows the guidelines set forth in by clients and the Company Quality Manual and Safety / Chemical Hygiene Plan.
  • Other duties as defined by Manager, department needs and workload.


Skills & Proficiencies:
  • Knowledgeable about all roles and responsibilities within both the neat and solubilized sample operations
  • Knowledgeable about all job aids and work processes in sample management
  • Must be comfortable handling chemical and biological samples
  • Must be highly organized and able to prioritize workload and complete orders
  • Communicate professionally and concisely - both written and verbal
  • Have solid experience maintaining a high attention to detail
  • Able to work in and familiar with use of MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook and SharePoint sites
  • Ability to quickly understand job-specific software
  • Team-oriented and the ability to work in a collaborative environment
  • Be a proven multi-tasker that truly thrives on juggling multiple projects in a deadline driven environment

Education and Experience:
  • Associates Degree in Chemistry or closely related field
  • Minimum of five (5) year(s) of experience with sample management.
  • Minimum of 1 year(s) in leadership

Compensation Range: $35.00-$42.00 per hour (e.g., the job posting is not necessarily reflective of actual compensation that may be earned, and actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as location, education, experience, and skillset).
