Job Class: 0991, Manager I

Salary Range: $122,873.06 - $164,976.94/annually

Appointment Type: Permanent Exempt (what does this mean?)

Calendar: Full Time / Full Year

The SFSD Manager I will be responsible for supporting the Student & Family Service Division's Focal Services Programs and Student & Family Team. The Manager I will also be tasked with overseeing the day to day operations of the programs they oversee. The Manager I will be expected to monitor, analyze and synthesize data on a regular basis for key stakeholders. The Manager I is expected to identify trends and make recommendations for changes to district policies and practices. We embrace a user-centered design approach to improving processes and building tools and resources, and a successful candidate will also bring a human-centered design approach to this work, a commitment to the practice of cultural humility and anti-racist work.

Essential Duties

The duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to the 0991/Manager 1 and are not intended to be an inclusive or exhaustive list.

As the Manager I, you will:

Demonstrate a Leadership Mindset

  • Increase communication, clarity and connection across the division to reduce silos and streamline services
  • Develop protocols and procedures to assist staff in delivery of services to students and families
  • Identify gaps in the division wide structures and generate solutions in partnership with stakeholders towards continuous improvement


Manage to Results

  • Create infrastructure for grant management and tracking systems and supports that align with divisional goals.
  • Lead and manage the grant application process for federal, state and local grants.
  • Monitor and maintain compliance on any contracts and/or MOUs that directly support services for LGBTQ Student Services and Refugee and Immigrant Solidarity in Education programs
  • Support feedback and evaluation tools that center the student and family experience of our process and procedures that will inform service delivery including communicating data results to all stakeholders as needed
  • Leads one or more components/functions of work within the department/division
  • Manages direct reports who may in turn manage others


Manage Teams

  • Lead, supervise, evaluate and guide a team supporting SFUSD Focal Services and support the Student & Family Team
  • Will act as the liaison for coordinating services in support of LGBTQ Student Services and Refugee and Immigrant Solidarity in Education


Manage Relationships

  • Thought partner with the Division's Leadership Team, schools and school site staff, as well as various central office departments.
  • Cultivate strong partnership with central office divisions and departments towards the successful implementation of programs and policies that are student and family centered.

  • Strong analytics and systems thinking necessary to interpret data to inform goals and strategy, as well as build infrastructure where none exists
  • Ability to work effectively across multiple functions and roles within a complex organization
  • Ability to support advisory councils
  • Knowledge of working with the LGBTQ community, Refugee & Immigrants,Solidarity in Education (RISE), Students Experiencing Homelessness, and students in Foster Youth care.
  • Strong understanding of the various policies and Education Codes that directly impact focal students
  • A proven record of effectively planning, organizing and using resources to take action and achieve goals
  • The ability to learn quickly and adapt as needed in a fast-paced environment
  • Outstanding organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
  • A flexible, "can do" work ethic with a focus on identifying challenges and proactively working to find solutions while maintaining a bigger picture lens and focus on what can be delivered instead of what cannot be done
  • Excellent data analysis skills and experience synthesizing data to drive action steps
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with senior level district staff and colleagues
  • Effective written and verbal communication and the ability to clearly communicate complex, bureaucratic processes to a variety of audiences

Minimum Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A. / B.S) from an accredited college or university; advanced degree preferred
  • Two years experience in a large public institution with multiple sites
  • Relevant supervisory experience
  • Valid California driver's license
