Manager, Human Resources (HR) Operations & Employee Experience

The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to bring your expertise, knowledge and passion for human resources to a dynamic educational community of leaders and learners. Reporting to the Head, Talent Management, the Manager, Human Resources Operations & Employee Experience provides leadership to the lifecycle of the employee experience, from the offer of employment, to onboarding, payroll processing, and ongoing data management within our HRIS. As well, the Manager brings leadership to the administration of compensation and benefits, health and safety, policies, and performance management programs.

With the Human Resources Coordinator as a direct report, the Manager oversees the HRIS (ADP WorkForce Now) and ensures employee documentation is maintained in a timely, accurate manner. With a strong customer service orientation, you will respond to employee inquiries and support leaders in working with their teams. Highly relational, you will also help identify opportunities for building community, wellbeing, and continued employee engagement.

Key Accountabilities Include:
  • HRIS & Data Integrity: Oversee ADP WorkForce Now, developing policies and protocols to ensure data integrity, maximize system capabilities, and prepare analyzed HR activity reports (turnover, vacation accruals).
  • Payroll & Benefits Liaison: Ensure all payroll-related documentation (new hires, salary/benefit adjustments, leaves of absence) is processed accurately and efficiently in liaison with the Payroll and Benefits Officer.
  • Team Supervision: Provide leadership, supervision, coaching, and performance management to the HR Coordinator to build capacity.
  • Total Rewards: Partner with the Head, Talent Management to administer the school's compensation plan, ensuring efficiency, equity, and legislative compliance; conduct salary scenario planning during the budget process.
  • Illness Management: Manage short and long-term disability claims, supporting employees through the process and liaising with the benefits provider.
  • Leadership Advisory: Support, coach, and advise school leaders and employees regarding policy interpretation and complex, confidential employee relations matters.
  • Health, Safety & Risk: Serve as an active member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee and Risk Management Committee; collaborate on programs promoting health, safety, and wellness.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with the Manager, Talent Acquisition on fair and equitable recruitment practices, and with the Head, Talent Management to implement staff feedback and growth programs.
  • Management Team: Participate as a member of the Management Team, collaborating to ensure integrated and shared leadership across school teams.

Candidate Profile
  • Education & Credentials: A university degree in Human Resource Management or a related field. Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation is required or currently in progress.
  • Experience: 5 years of progressive HR experience, including experience in a supervisory role. Experience in the non-profit or education sector is a strong asset.
  • Technical Skills: Strong experience in human resources administration, systems, and payroll; proficiency with ADP WorkForce Now is preferred.
  • Core Competencies: Superior relationship-building and communication skills to manage situations with tact, diplomacy, and professionalism.
  • Analytical & Judgment: Strong analytical skills with the ability to exercise sound independent judgment and provide objective, confidential consultation.

Target Hiring Range: $87,576 - $109,471
