Full Job Description
The Role:

ElevateBio is looking for an Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to launch and lead a world-class EHS program at our new biomanufacturing facility in Pittsburgh, PA. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the foundation for EHS and is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic and evolving environment. You'll be the key resource in driving EHS initiatives and building an interdependent safety culture that focuses on people's behaviors, leadership by all, open reporting, accountability, and helping others.

Partnering closely with the Site Leadership team and broader EHS team members in MA, you'll serve as the key EHS resource in Pittsburgh, overseeing biosafety, chemical safety, and physical safety programs to ensure compliance with the University of Pittsburgh as well as state and federal OSHA and EPA regulations.

Here's What You'll Do:
  • Biosafety & Safety: Oversee the occupational health and safety for cell and gene therapy operations, ensuring appropriate containment, decontamination, and regulated waste disposal. Partner closely with process development, MSAT, and GMP manufacturing teams to provide technical safety reviews of equipment and operations.
  • Compliance & Risk: Conduct Job Hazard Analyses (JHA) and risk evaluations for novel advanced therapies. Accountable for EHS compliance related to occupational and process safety, environmental permitting, employee exposure protection, OSHA reporting, and waste management.
  • Facility Design & Equipment Review: Provide EHS input into laboratory and manufacturing suite design and function.
  • Incident Investigation & Reporting: Lead root-cause investigations, recommend corrective and preventive actions, and increase focus on near-miss and other leading indicators.
  • EHS Management System: Drive the development and implementation of EHS programs, inspections, and training with the goal of ISO45001 and ISO14001 certification.


Requirements:
  • Education: A bachelor's degree or master's degree in environmental science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related scientific field.
  • Experience: 8+ years of experience, specifically with establishing new facilities for GMP manufacturing biologics or cell and gene therapies.
  • Certifications: Preferred credentials include Biosafety Professional certifications (RBP or CBSP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgement and professional maturity.
  • Utilize strong communication, organizational and problem-solving skills to manage multiple priorities while interfacing with colleagues at all levels.
  • Ability to work onsite in Pittsburgh, PA
