Position Summary

The Manager, Environmental Affairs & Compliance provides strategic leadership and technical expertise to ensure environmental compliance and protect Huber Specialty Minerals' license to operate across multiple manufacturing and mining sites. This highly visible role leads environmental permitting, regulatory compliance, sustainability management systems, and risk management initiatives while partnering closely with Operations, Engineering, EHS, Legal, and senior business leaders. The position plays a critical role in navigating complex environmental regulations, influencing compliance strategy, and supporting long-term business growth across HSM's calcium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, kaolin, and attapulgite businesses.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead environmental compliance programs across HSM manufacturing and mining operations, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Direct and manage permitting activities related to air emissions, water withdrawals, stormwater, wastewater, mining operations, wetlands, floodplains, and land use.
  • Serve as the primary environmental subject matter expert, providing risk-based guidance on complex regulatory and compliance matters.
  • Monitor environmental legislation, emerging regulations, and industry trends; assess business impacts and develop compliance strategies.
  • Ensure all permit requirements, monitoring programs, reporting obligations, and compliance deadlines are effectively managed and executed.
  • Partner with Engineering, Operations, and Project teams to support Management of Change (MOC) processes, capital projects, and permitting activities.
  • Represent HSM with regulatory agencies, industry groups, public hearings, and stakeholder organizations.
  • Support environmental due diligence activities related to acquisitions, divestitures, and other business transactions.
  • Drive continuous improvement of the Huber Sustainability Management System (HSMS) and support internal auditing activities.
  • Develop and deliver environmental compliance training to EHS and operational teams.
  • Track, analyze, and communicate environmental performance metrics to leadership and key stakeholders.


Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or related discipline required;
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive environmental compliance experience supporting manufacturing, mining, industrial, or natural resource operations.
  • Strong expertise in environmental permitting, regulatory compliance, and environmental management systems.
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. federal and state environmental regulations and permitting requirements.
  • Experience supporting mining operations and associated environmental requirements strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001, sustainability management systems, and environmental auditing practices.
  • Professional certifications such as CHMM, QEP, REM, or CEM are desirable.
  • Strong project management, analytical, and risk assessment capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including experience working with regulators and industry associations.
  • Familiarity with Colorado, Texas, western U.S. environmental regulations, BLM interactions, or water rights issues is a plus.
  • Ability to travel approximately 25%.
  • Position may be based in Atlanta, GA, Greater Denver, CO, or remote within reasonable proximity to a major airport.

U.S. Market-Based Salary Range

[$106,000.00 - $150,000.00]

In addition to base compensation, individuals may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and profit-sharing payout.
