Job DescriptionReporting to the Section Manager, the Manager is pivotal to managing engineers and coordinating with stakeholders in planning the electric infrastructure, specifically at the Sub-transmission feeder, Area Substation and 4 kV Unit Substation level. The selected candidate will identify & communicate solutions for load relief projects by collaborating with internal & external stakeholders, renewable energy developers, utilities, and government funding agencies. Selected candidate will develop subject matter expertise in Area Substation planning processes and objectives, identifying load relief recommendations for supply and substations, facilitate project feasibility and coordination with different planning, engineering and operations groups from conceptualization, funding, to implementation.
The Manager will provide both engineering and business support associated with implementation of existing and new planning processes to prepare the grid for the clean energy future. This is a great role to demonstrate your ability to drive results, demonstrate application of cross-disciplinary skills to support the clean energy space and gain first-hand experience in managing a team to produce meaningful impact customers.
ResponsibilitiesCore Responsibilities- Manage the detailed probabilistic modeling and analytical efforts to quantify area substation load relief risk and provide insights into investment prioritization for the Load Relief Program (LRP)
- Manage a team that develops tools to provide new insights to risk, enhance planning methodologies for load relief planning to hedge against forecast uncertainty and large electrification growth, and winter loading impacts
- Lead the coordination with multiple internal stakeholders to develop risk adjusted timelines, incorporating feasibility and cost effectiveness
- Manage and coordinate with stakeholders to evaluate the long-term holistic needs of the distribution grid that includes electrification loads (EV, BE, etc) and policy forecasting scenarios for area station and distribution feeder projects on both summer and winter peaks
- Coordinate with various areas of the Company such as Central and Regional Engineering, Distribution Planning, Commodity Forecasting, Resource Planning, and Transmission Planning, to foster the development and implementation of Proactive Planning requirements and enhance cohesive system planning
- Ensure proper planning and development of innovative solutions that utilize Distributed Energy Resource (DER) assets to deliver the lowest cost long-term solutions
- Support ongoing internal and external forecasting and planning studies and efforts
- Lead the evaluation of cost impacts and value of investments of planning approaches and load relief projects
- Provide strategic leadership to a team of direct reports, ensuring successful execution of DPA priorities and continuous expansion of projects and capabilities.
- Engage with regulators, and support the reporting requirements, including whitepapers, budgeting, rate case, etc. of DPA objectives with the New York Public Service Commission. Support ASP&A team on presentations, workshops, and seminars for both internal and external stakeholders.
QualificationsRequired Education/Experience- Bachelor's Degree and 5 years relevant work experience Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Environmental, Industrial or related) or
- Master's Degree and 3 years relevant work experience Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Environmental, Industrial or related) or Business Administration
Relevant Work Experience- Relevant work experience, including technical knowledge of Con Edison's electrical system, energy storage systems, project management, and construction, required. Required
- Ability to exercise independent judgment, demonstrate excellent problem-solving abilities. Provide exemplary customer service to supporting teams and organizations, required. Required
- Well-organized, detail-oriented, flexible to handle multiple assignments and projects, able to implement process improvements, and able to meet deadlines, required. Required
- Strong financial and analytical skills and experience in gathering and interpreting data, required. Required
- Strong knowledge of computer applications such as MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), required. Required
- Proficiency in Excel, Python or R, SQL, for business analytics, preferred. Preferred
- Relevant experience and knowledge on forecasting, demand management programs, energy storage systems, project management, and construction, and capital deferment mechanisms, Preferred. Preferred

Physical Demands- Ability to respond to system emergencies
- Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
- Perform extended driving through heavy traffic and severe off-road conditions
- Ability to work in adverse conditions that include, noise, confined spaces, and high elevations
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs
- Ability to work on elevated platforms, scaffolds, catwalks, roofs, and/or other equipment
- Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
- Ability to work with, and in, the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems
- Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator, without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
- Stand, walk, and climb ladders and stairs for the duration of the workday
- Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday
- Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies
- Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
- Work rotating shifts, including nights, midnights, weekends, and holidays
- Use personal vehicle(s), and be able to transport, store, and secure company laptops and other job-related equipment in vehicle. Acknowledge that reimbursement for use of personal vehicle is available through the company mileage procedure
Additional Physical Demands- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
