Job Description

The Manager of Employee Relations provides leadership and oversight for the University's employment compliance and employee relations programs to ensure adherence to federal and state employment laws, University policies, and regulatory requirements. This position serves as the University's primary resource for employee relations consultation, workplace conflict resolution, ADA accommodations, employee grievance administration, and employment policy interpretation. The Manager partners with University leadership to promote fair, consistent, and legally compliant employment practices while mitigating institutional risk through consultation, investigations, compliance oversight, and training.

Required Qualifications
• Master's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Organizational Development, Public Administration, Psychology or a related field. OR Bachelor's degree in related field with at least 2 years of direct experience.
• Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in human resources, with significant experience in employee relations, workplace investigations, policy interpretation, conflict resolution, or employment compliance.
• Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations, including Title VII, ADA, FLSA, and other applicable employment requirements.
• Experience providing consultation and coaching to supervisors and employees regarding workplace concerns, corrective action, and conflict resolution.
• Experience conducting or supporting workplace investigations and preparing related documentation.
• Strong knowledge of human resources principles, practices, and employment policies.
• Excellent written, verbal, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working in higher education, government, or a public-sector environment.
• Experience administering a formal employee grievance process, preferably the Commonwealth of Virginia Employee Grievance Procedure.
• Experience developing and delivering supervisor training related to employee relations, employment law, workplace conduct, or compliance.
• Experience with ADA coordination and accommodation case management.
