The Manager, Electrical Services is a key leadership position responsible for the overall direction, performance, and continuous improvement of the Electrical Maintenance Group. This role combines technical expertise with people leadership, ensuring the reliability, optimization, and advancement of automation and control systems across the operation.
The successful candidate will possess deep technical knowledge of industrial control systems, including PLCs, HMIs, motion control systems, robotics, industrial networking, and related automation technologies. They will provide strategic oversight for troubleshooting, maintenance, upgrades, and continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring system reliability, safety, and operational excellence.
Beyond technical capability, this role requires a proven leader who can develop talent, foster collaboration, and build organizational capability. The Manager, Electrical Services will mentor technicians and help to elevate the team's technical proficiency and subject matter expertise. SUMMARY:The Manager of Electrical Services is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all electrical systems and equipment used in the packaging operations. This position is vital for ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant functioning of electrical infrastructure, directly impacting production continuity, product quality, and regulatory adherence in a highly regulated manufacturing environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Team Leadership & Management:
- Leading, mentoring, and developing a team of electrical technicians and maintenance personnel, including managing workload distribution, scheduling, and performance reviews.
- Providing guidance and training to ensure team competency in electrical systems, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance (e.g., GMP)
- Fostering a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and technical excellence within the electrical services department.
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
- Overseeing the troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems, including packaging machinery, motors, controls, and associated equipment.
- Developing and implementing preventative and predictive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and ensure optimal performance of electrical assets.
- Analyzing equipment failures to identify root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
- Managing spare parts inventory and sourcing necessary electrical components to support maintenance activities.
- Compliance & Safety:
- Ensuring all electrical work complies with regulatory standards, including FDA regulations, GMP guidelines, and electrical safety standards (e.g., NFPA).
- Developing and maintaining robust documentation for electrical systems, including schematics, maintenance records, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Conducting safety training for personnel and enforcing adherence to lockout/tagout procedures and other safety protocols.
- Project & Capital Management:
- Assisting in the planning and execution of electrical projects, including new installations, upgrades, and modifications to packaging lines and facilities.
- Collaborating with engineering teams on capital projects, providing technical input on electrical system design and implementation.
- Working with management to establish project costs and manage budgets for electrical services and capital expenditures.
- Process Improvement & Optimization:
- Identifying and implementing process improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency, reliability, and safety of electrical systems within the packaging operation.
- Staying updated with new technologies and industry advancements in electrical systems and maintenance practices within the pharmaceutical packaging sector.
REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:- A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. A master's degree or relevant technical certifications is preferred.
- 7+ years in electrical maintenance and services within a manufacturing environment, preferably in the pharmaceutical or medical device industry.
- Proven leadership experience, including managing technical teams and driving maintenance excellence programs.
- Strong understanding of pharmaceutical packaging equipment, automation systems, and production processes.
- In-depth knowledge of cGMP standards, OSHA regulations, and electrical safety codes (e.g., NFPA).
- Technical Skills:
- Expertise in troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems, including PLCs, HMIs, motor controls, and sensors.
- Strong knowledge of industrial machine controls, electrical systems, and safety PLCs.
- Familiarity with electrical design software, CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems), and ERP systems are beneficial.
- Knowledge of process instrumentation and industrial power and lighting applications.
