Role OverviewThis is a mid-to-senior level engineering leadership position focused on managing and guiding a specialized team of embedded FPGA engineers developing cutting-edge firmware for secure wireless communication products. Located on-site in Rochester, NY, you will take full ownership of resource management, technical schedules, and development budgets while driving the career growth of your direct reports.
Key Responsibilities- Team Leadership & Management: Oversee a dedicated team of FPGA firmware engineers. Set clear performance goals, manage timecards, design individual career development plans, and facilitate technical training.
- Project & Budget Control: Create detailed FPGA development cost estimates, build execution schedules, and track budgets to ensure work delivery completion and metrics.
- Process Optimization: Maintain, enforce, and drive continuous improvement across the internal FPGA/ASIC development and verification life cycles.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with multidisciplinary product teams to define, architect, and verify robust FPGA solutions for tactical radio product lines.
Required Qualifications- Education: Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related STEM discipline.
- Core Technical Experience: Minimum of 8+ years of professional experience in FPGA/ASIC-based embedded system firmware development and verification.
- Leadership Depth: Proven track record in project management, technical team leadership, and resource allocation within a hardware/firmware environment.
- Process Knowledge: Deep working knowledge of structural FPGA/ASIC development pipelines and industry-standard verification frameworks.
- Security Clearance Requirement: Candidates must have an Active SECRET Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship mandatory for clearance eligibility).

Preferred Additional Skills- High proficiency in VHDL or Verilog coding for synthesis.
- Direct experience in FPGA/ASIC verification utilizing SystemVerilog along with UVM/OVM methodologies.
- Experience developing embedded cryptographic security solutions or advanced signal processing for tactical communication products.
- Strong technical writing skills to communicate highly complex technical concepts clearly across remote teams and stakeholders.
