Full Job Description
JOB PURPOSE
Position is responsible for leading the Electric System Coordination (ESC) and support groups in operating the LG&E/KU balancing area and transmission system. Includes managing these individuals in a self-directed work environment and arranging for their training in basic skills, operating procedures and reliability requirements.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions
  • Performs administrative functions, shift scheduling, performance reviews, and technical guidance for ESCs and Engineers.
  • Acts as liaison between Transmission Operations, engineering or technical support and Energy Accounting functions.
  • Provides compliance support, including TOP, IRO, BAL, EOP, and INT standards.
  • Monitors the security of the transmission system, ensuring that the system can survive contingencies by being actively involved with the Reliability Coordinator on both real-time and planned operations.
  • Develops and implements process improvements and leads engineering technical support for Electric System Coordinators.
  • Responsible for writing and maintaining compliance documentation and ensuring that transmission operations comply with relevant regulatory compliance.
  • Represent L&GE/KU on SERC committees and working groups.
  • Participates in directing the restoration of service after storm outages and equipment failures.
  • Ensures that the LG&E/KU balancing area operation meets NERC and SERC policies.
  • Coordinates with other work groups including Distribution Operations, Generation, Major Accounts, etc.
  • Files reports with SERC as required. Provides for the developmental needs and training requirements of Electric System Coordinators.
  • All other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience on a year-for-year basis, is required.
  • 8+ years experience in utility transmission system operations or a related field.
  • Technical knowledge and proficiency acquired through work-related assignments associated with system planning and operation. Requires proficient understanding of real time operations and processes of the LG&E and KU Transmission and BA Desks.
  • Requires ability to achieve NERC RC certification within a maximum of three (3) Certification exam attempts to be completed no later than six (6) months after your start date.
  • Note: Must meet all requirements within this section before considered as a candidate.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent computer skills in word processing, and spreadsheets, as well as excellent technical writing capability. Needs the ability to analyze and evaluate technical material and data. Ability to effectively communicate and motivate in a team environment is desired.
