Job Summary

Manages the environmental health and safety (EHS) function across assigned operations, providing leadership to professional team members and/or supervisors. Is accountable for the performance and results of the EHS team, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations. Adapts departmental plans and priorities to address operational challenges and evolving regulatory standards. Provides technical guidance and expertise to leadership, employees, and customers while developing and implementing programs that foster a culture of safety, compliance, and environmental stewardship. Operates with guidance from the director and collaborates cross-functionally to integrate EHS practices into business operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advises senior leadership and department heads on complex EHS issues, offering expert recommendations to mitigate risks, comply with regulations, and the overall safety culture within the organization.
  • Coordinates processes and assignments across departments to ensure efficient and effective implementation of EHS policies and procedures, aligning resources with organizational goals.
  • Defines project terms for EHS-related initiatives, setting clear objectives and expectations for team members and ensuring the successful execution of these projects in line with business priorities.
  • Implements EHS programs and systems to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies, including safety inspections, environmental assessments, and training programs. Educates employees and leadership on EHS policies and procedures, conducting training sessions, and providing guidance to foster a safety-conscious environment and prevent workplace accidents.
  • Evaluates performance of EHS initiatives and team members by assessing program effectiveness, conducting audits, and reviewing safety metrics to identify areas for improvement.
  • Establishes strong working relationships with external regulatory agencies and industry stakeholders to ensure continuous alignment with evolving regulations and best practices in environmental health and safety.
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local EHS regulations, including environmental impact assessments, hazardous materials management, and employee safety protocols, by maintaining up-to-date knowledge of legislation and compliance requirements.
  • Manages the recruitment, hiring, and development of EHS team members, providing coaching and mentorship to ensure ongoing professional growth and operational efficiency within the team.
  • Leverage lean principles and Kaizen events, you will lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce conditional ergonomic risk to ensure a safe and healthful working environment for team members.


Required Education & Experience

Bachelor's Degree

Specialized Degree: engineering, industrial safety, or related science with experience in a manufacturing environment

Years of Experience: 5-7 Years

Field(s) of Expertise: manufacturing, occupational safety experience in general industry, and 5-year experience of environmental efforts with waste management, EPCRA, storm water, spill prevention, air, and waste

Required Licenses and Certifications: OSHA 10-hour, OSHA 30-hour, ASP, CSP, SMS

Preferred Education & Experience

Specialized Degree: engineering, industrial safety, occupational health and safety, public safety, engineering, or even science disciplines like chemistry or biology

Years of Experience: 8-11 Years

Field(s) of Expertise: Waste Management, Air/Water Permitting, Emergency Response, and regulatory compliance (EPA, OSHA)

Preferred Licenses and Certifications: Professional certification in safety desired.
