About the Role
We are seeking a Manager, Data Platforms & Strategy to lead the development and execution of our enterprise data strategy and platform capabilities. Reporting to the Director of IT, this role blends strategic leadership, data architecture, governance, and team development to enable data-driven decision-making across the organization.
The role will play a critical role in shaping how data is leveraged to support innovation, operations, and business growth-partnering closely with teams across Research & Innovation, Product Development, and Business Solutions.
What You Will Do
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and maintain enterprise data strategy, roadmap, and maturity model aligned with business objectives.
- Lead quarterly/annual planning, including business case development and investment prioritization for data initiatives.
- Drive adoption of data-driven decision-making across the organization, including analytics, reporting, and Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learningopportunities.
- Define and promote data governance frameworks, standards, and policies (data quality, ownership, stewardship).
- Evaluate emerging data technologies and platforms, recommending adoption where business value exists.
Technical Oversight & Platform Development
- Oversee design and evolution of enterprise data platforms (data lakes, warehouses, integration layers).
- Create scalable, secure, and high-performing data architecture supporting analytics and operational needs.
- Establish and oversee data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, and integration frameworks across business systems.
- Build strong data quality solutions, availability, lineage, and reliability across platforms.
- Maintain compliance with data governance, privacy, and security standards.
- Partner with application, ERP, and integration teams to ensure seamless data flow and interoperability.
Team Leadership & Delivery
- Lead and mentor data engineering team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Manage resource allocation, hiring, and professional development for team members.
- Set clear performance goals and ensure disciplined execution of data initiatives.
- Delivery of data projects in conjunction with Project Leader, ensuring alignment with timelines, budgets, and business outcomes.
- Manage vendor relationships and external partners supporting data platforms and analytics solutions.
- Other duties as required.
What You Need to Succeed
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, or related field
- Certifications such as DAMA/CDMP, PMP, ITIL 4, Agile, or Scrum are considered assets
- Cloud certifications (Azure, AWS, or GCP) are an asset
- 8+ years of experience in data engineering, data platforms, or analytics
- 5+ years leading data or technology teams
- Proven success delivering enterprise data strategies and large-scale transformation initiatives
- Strong expertise in:
- Data architecture (data lakes, warehouses, cloud platforms)
- Data integration, ETL/ELT pipelines, and data modeling
- Data governance, quality, and stewardship frameworks
- Business intelligence and analytics enablement
- ERP and cross-system data integration
- Strategic thinking with strong alignment to business outcomes
- Leadership and people development capabilities
- Strong communication and stakeholder influencing skills

Work Location & Minimum Pay Rate
This is a full-time, hybrid role based in our Guelph location. This position offers a minimum starting salary of $ 125,000.00, with potential compensation enhancements based on applicable experience and qualifications.
