The Opportunity

As the Manager, Data and Evaluation, you will lead and manage the day-to-day operations of data analysis, research, evaluation and reporting within Magnet. You will provide data and business intelligence (BI) expertise in developing and maintaining Magnet's business intelligence and reporting platform solutions. You will manage the data tools, data collection, data analytics, data warehousing and sources, reports and other strategies that unify pre-existing data sets to optimize reporting outcomes for internal and external stakeholders. You will work with Magnet leaders to prioritize business and information needs and advise them on best utilization of tools and technologies pertaining to data visualization.

Role Responsibilities:
  • Leads the development of a data and insight strategy and implements plans that reflect current and emerging industry standards and provides technical expertise on the development and maintenance of data models.
  • Conducts, researches, promotes, and advocates for best practices in data management, ownership, reporting, and use of business intelligence, and ensures the integrity of the information gathered is reviewed by relevant subject matter experts.
    Identifies, acquires, and implements appropriate tools that unify analyses and presentations. Develops training and resources to support end-users.
  • Manages systems and technologies for data storage and organization - including day-to-day operations/support and platform lifecycle. Monitors and analyzes information and data systems and evaluates their performance. Troubleshoots data-related problems and authorizes maintenance or modifications. Creates and/or reviews documentation for all data ecosystem changes or refinements
  • Leads, and manages the implementation of data related projects for Magnet including developing new processes/functions to incorporate other data sources.
  • Defines and develops project scope and objectives, timelines, and deliverables. Provides team leadership by overseeing the planning and execution of projects, prioritizing activities, and ensuring efficient allocation of appropriate resources.
  • Oversees all areas of the data life cycle: data collection and integration with existing assets, analysis and results interpretation, data visualization, and the presentation of findings to Magnet stakeholders.
Qualifications

  • Completion of a post-secondary degree in a relevant discipline, including economics, human geography, industrial relations, public policy, statistics;
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in a public policy, community employment support, or economic development or workforce consulting environment;
  • Minimum five (5) years of managerial experience;
  • Experience writing provincial or federal funding applications;
  • Experience with Business Intelligence (BI) tools, data storage, manipulation and visualization, user support and training;
  • Experience in data analytics, data insights and reporting;
  • Experience in vendor/supplier management (negotiating contracts, licensing, etc);
  • Any combination of experience with the following technologies:
    • Statistical / BI / Reporting Platforms/Tools;
    • Tableau data visualization software suite;
    • Relational Database Technologies and Tools;
    • Common Modern Operating Systems; and;
    • Collaboration and Productivity tools/platforms.
  • Knowledge of project management methodology, principles, and practices;
  • Ability to manage, maintain, implement, and troubleshoot data analytics, data insights, business intelligence, including data management, and reporting platforms/systems;
  • Ability to contextualize how data fits within the larger technical landscape, business environment, user experience;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; including ability to communicate effectively technical information to technical and non-technical staff and end users and a wide range of audiences in simple terms.
