POSITION SUMMARY:
Coordination and oversight of bus service planning activities and long-range guidelines for the Authority. This includes concept development, data collection and analysis, public participation, interagency coordination, coordination of service revision customer information, coordination with other transit agencies through CoMET and IBBG and service change follow -up monitoring. The tasks are employed to design and implement route path, service and operational changes to promote efficiency, maximize new market opportunities, and improve customer and operations safety. The goal is to allocate NYC Transit services efficiently and effectively, and to respond quickly to changing market conditions, land use developments and traffic conditions.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Planning Activities - coordinate concept development, implementation, and evaluation of complex bus service modifications including intermodal considerations. This includes analysis of customer impacts, customer response, ridership, revenue, cost and operational impacts. Monitor service patterns and ridership changes to identify candidate items for inclusion in service revision agenda.
- Evaluation• Activities - Direct the follow-up evaluation of bus service design modifications. Includes data collection, customer response surveys, and operational analysis for submission to the MTA Board.
- Manage Special Studies - Support comprehensive Community service planning efforts. Develop scope for consultant studies and manage consultant work effort for longer term or specialized issues. Provide coordination for NYCT's involvement in CoMET and IBBG.
- Provide specialized database input for AFC revisions and initiatives. Assists Customer Information in technical review of timetables.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Degree Required: Bachelor's
- Major Field of Study: Transportation Management, Engineering, Economics, or a closely related field. Other: MPA, Urban/Regional Ping, Trans Eng, or a satisfactory equivalent of education & experience.
- Total Number of Years' Experience: 6 years
- Years of Managerial/Supervisory Experience: 3 years
DESIRED SKILLS:
- Six years as a senior level Operations Planner for a transit agency, regional planning agency, or consultant.
- Two - three years of managerial or supervisory experience conducting' diverse and complex transportation planning assignments.
