Job Summary

The Biomedical Engineering Manager provides leadership and oversight of the hospital's clinical engineering program, including the maintenance, performance, and lifecycle management of biomedical equipment and systems. This role supervises a team of Biomedical Technicians and ensures that medical devices are safe, reliable, and compliant with all applicable regulatory and accreditation standards. The Manager supports patient care through effective technology management; and oversees equipment operations, regulatory compliance, risk management, and the cybersecurity of network-connected medical devices. The position also plays a key role in strategic planning, capital equipment management, technology assessment, and standardization to ensure alignment with organizational goals and patient care needs.

What You'll Bring to the Team:
  • Strong knowledge of medical equipment systems, terminology, safety standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, CMS, DNV, NFPA)
  • Demonstrated leadership, team development, and performance management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage clinical staff, leadership, vendors, and cross-functional teams
  • Proficiency in CMMS, including asset management, reporting, and performance tracking
  • Working knowledge of medical device integration, network connectivity, and cybersecurity considerations
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines in a fast-paced healthcare environment

Licensure and Certification:
  • Required: Certification as a Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET), Certified Healthcare Technology Manager (CHTM), or equivalent; or required within 12 months of hire
  • Preferred: Advanced or specialty certifications related to clinical engineering, healthcare technology management, or medical device systems

Education:
  • Required: Associate or technical degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics, or a related field
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering or a related field
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of required degree


Experience:
  • Minimum seven (7) years of experience in biomedical equipment/clinical engineering, including maintenance, repair, and lifecycle management of medical devices
  • Minimum two (2) years of supervisory or lead experience in a Biomed/Clinical Engineering environment, with responsibility for staff oversight, workflow coordination, and performance management
  • Demonstrated experience working in a hospital or large healthcare system environment, preferably within an acute care setting
  • Proven knowledge of medical equipment technologies, healthcare operations, and regulatory requirements
  • Experience supporting regulatory compliance, accreditation surveys, and quality improvement initiatives preferred
  • Experience with capital planning, equipment standardization, or program management is highly desirable
  • Experience managing or supporting network-connected medical devices and collaborating with Information Systems and Cybersecurity teams.
